2022 National Bank Open Odds and Predictions

In the biggest prep tournament for the US Open, the ATP Tour is in Montreal for the National Bank Open. The women are in Toronto for the WTA Tour tournament. TheSportsGeek is handicapping the National Bank Open odds and looking for the best National Bank Open picks.

The National Bank Open is the biggest prep tournament before the US Open.

This is a tournament that brings out some of the big names on the ATP Tour. It’s one of the biggest events of the summer that isn’t a grand slam. Novak Djokovic had plans to play in Montreal, but he will be unable to go because of his Covid-19 vaccine status.

Djokovic is still on the odds board for the US open, but there’s a 99.9% chance he isn’t playing. He is not on the National Bank Open odds board and won’t be in Montreal for the Canadian Open.

Daniil Medvedev, who was barred from Wimbledon, is on the National Bank Open odds board, though.

Medvedev also intends on playing the US Open in New York. US Open and the ATP Tour are not banning Russians and Belarusians from entering the tournament. With Djokovic absent, Medvedev’s odds of winning are substantially better.

LOS CABOS DOMINATION
Medvedev is coming off a clinic in Mexico at ATP Los Cabos. He steamrolled the competition and is looking for more before the US Open.

This is a competitive field at the National Bank Open. There are some notable names on the Canadian Open odds board in Montreal.

Medvedev, Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, Casper Ruud, and Matteo Berrettini are all here. Head below for the best National Bank open betting odds and Canadian Open predictions.

National Bank Open Betting Odds

After what Daniil Medvedev did last week, the No. 1 ranked player on the ATP Tour is the Canadian Open odds favorite.

This isn’t much of a surprise and is the right move by the oddsmakers. The question you have to ask is if there is enough value to bet on Medvedev.

Other contenders include Nick Kyrgios and Jannik Sinner at +1000.

Kyrgios is in the best form we’ve seen from him in three years. He ended a three-year drought with a win at the Citi Open in Washington.

This was after going to the final round at Wimbledon against Djokovic. It’s been a fun season for Kyrgios, and we’ll see if he can maintain his form in Montreal.

Carlos Alcaraz is the second-favorite to win the National Bank Open. He is coming off a loss last week to Sinner in the Croatia Open Final following a loss in the German Open Final to Lorenzo Musetti.

National Bank Open Predictions

Jannik Sinner (+1000)

Purely based on betting value, Jannik Sinner has to be considered on the National Bank Open odds board. Sinner is largely flying under the radar this year. It’s a mistake to avoid the Italian in Montreal this year.

Sinner won the Croatia Open with an impressive effort over Carlos Alcaraz on July 31.

That was an impressive display after it looked like it was going to be a straight-set win for Alcaraz. Sinner lost the first set, 6-7 (5-7), and he was down to one last set. The underdog turned it up and responded in fine fashion.

Sinner ultimately took care of Alcaraz quickly over the next two sets. He won the match 6-7, 6-1, 6-1 over the second-favorite in the National Bank Open.

Note that this is the same guy that went the distance in five sets against Novak Djokovic. Before the Croatia Open, Sinner went five sets in the quarterfinals at Wimbledon.

Sinner did not get the win, but pressed the best player in the world in a 7-5, 6-2, 3-6, 2-6, 2-6 loss.

He had Djokovic on the ropes and only needed another set after winning the first two impressively. This wasn’t a fluke performance from Sinner, as he was able to prove at the Croatia Open.

The only set Sinner lost at the Croatia Open was the first set against Alcaraz in the final round. And then after that defeat, he responded with two huge sets to down the Spaniard.

SINNER HAS TO BE CONSIDERED IN MONTREAL
The 20-year-old Italian is 30-10 in 2022 across all surfaces. On a hard court, he’s won an impressive 30 sets with 13 losses.

Sinner is coming into his own at the moment. After a set away from beating Djokovic, he gathered himself to win the Croatia Open. With his National Bank Open odds at +1000, Sinner is a value bet.

Daniil Medvedev (+265)

Does Daniil Medvedev have value as the betting favorite in the Canadian Open? I’d have to say at +265, his National Bank Open betting odds are worth a look.

Medvedev was untouchable at the Los Cabos Open in Mexico.

There were no threats for Medvedev, as he blasted past the field for four wins in straight sets. He beat the No. 4 seed, Miomir Kecmanovic, 7-6, 6-1, and then beat his toughest opponent yet in the final round against Cameron Norrie.

TOP FORM
Medvedev was in his best form at Los Cabos. He went there on a business trip looking determined to prove that he deserves his No. 1 spot in the ATP rankings. That’s exactly what Medvedev did over the No. 3 seed in the final.

After a back and forth first set for a 7-5 win, Medvedev felt Norrie out and didn’t make any mistakes in the second set. He smelled blood in the water and jumped all over Norrie for a 6-0 win.

Medvedev lost in the final in the Netherlands on June 12 and then the same at the Halle Open vs Hubert Hurkacz. He wasn’t about to make the same mistake and let an ATP title slip away in Mexico.

Medvedev does not have to be concerned with Djokovic or Nadal in the Canadian Open. The player with the next best National Bank Open betting odds is Carlos Alcaraz. He has a special future, but still needs to learn how to finish.

The Russian is an impressive 17-4 on the hard court in 2022. He has won 43 sets and lost just 14 going into Montreal. His true odds to win the National Bank Open are probably +175 or +200. I’m looking at Medvedev to have a big chance to repeat with another ATP title.
