It’s the battle of the teenagers in New York as Britain’s Emma Raducanu takes on Leylah Fernandez in the US Open final.
Raducanu, 18, beat Greek 17th seed Maria Sakkari in their semi-final at Flushing Meadow, winning 6-1, 6-4, while Canada’s Fernandez, 19, saw off Aryna Sabalenka.
In winning her semi-final, Raducanu became the first qualifier ever – male or female – to reach the final of a Grand Slam event.
She has not dropped a set and is also £900,000 richer, but there is a £1.8m prize up for grabs on Saturday night.
When is the final?
The match is scheduled to take place at 9pm (BST) on Saturday 11 September.
How can I watch it?
The battle of the teenagers will be broadcast live on Amazon Prime Video in the UK.
Who have they beaten?
Fernandez has recorded a few upsets en route to the final, beating defending champion Naomi Osaka, No 16 Angelique Kerber and No 5 Elina Svitolina.
Raducanu has beaten Zhang Shuai, Shelby Rogers and Belinda Bencic.
Have they played each other before?
Yes. The two met each other in the second round of the Wimbledon Junior tournament in 2018, with Raducanu winning 6-2, 6-4.
“I’m sure it’s going to be extremely different to when we last encountered each other,” Raducanu said on the prospect of facing Fernandez. “But we’re both playing good tennis so it will be a good match.”
