US Politics: Trumps Odds Decline As Pence Odds Rise

After the unprecedented insurrection at Capitol Hill, Donald Trump’s 2024 US Elections odds took a hit across the board. At the same time, various new political betting markets have cropped up, as betting on what will happen in the next couple of weeks heats up.

The long-short of it: growing calls for a second impeachment have given way to a slew of political prop bets surrounding Trump’s fate over the next couple of weeks, in the lead up to the official end of his presidency at 12 PM ET on January 20 and Joe Biden’s inauguration. Those include prop betting questions whether Trump will pardon himself or resign from office.

And yet, despite the drama and emergent markets, Trump remains (for now, at the time of writing on Sunday, January 10) in play for the 2024 US Elections – albeit as the third best bet now at +1200 with BetOnline sportsbook, behind the newly-minted fave, Mike Pence (+250) and second-best bet Nikki Haley (+500).

American Politics in Unchartered Waters

To say these are unprecedented times in American political history isn’t an overstatement of fact. Frankly, there’s been nothing like it in recent memory. Unedifying stuff that is seeing ramifications for Trump at every turn, including his beloved Twitter, which has suspended Donald Trump’s account permanently and cut him off from his 88-plus million followers. Other social giants such as Facebook have suspended his accounts temporarily too. Life comes at you fast, so goes the populist saying.

Whether Twitter and other social media platforms reinstate Trump’s accounts though is the least of the president’s worries right now. On the political landscape, his legacy is under threat as the Democrats ramp up efforts to impeach Trump before the end of his term in less than 10 days.

Trump and the 2024 US Elections Markets

On the day that vice president Mike Pence was overseeing a joint session of Congress, in which the House and Senate were set to vote to formally confirm Biden’s victory, pro-Trump protestors forcibly stormed Capitol Hill. Shocking scenes that have been played out across media channels the world over, with many condemning the actions of the mob and laying the blame squarely on president Donald Trump’s shoulders for creating the tense environment during his rally speech earlier in the day.

Predictably, the fallout is extensive. Several leading news outlets, including CNN and ABC News are reporting that articles of impeachment against Trump are planned for submission on Monday, with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi spearheading the charge in the coming week.

When bookies went to press with 2024 US Election Markets, president Donald Trump’s odds to reclaim the White House were initially high – in the quadruple digit region, among the longshots in contention. However, the incumbent went on to boost his political betting capital last month to emerge among the top bets in the market, after dropping repeated hints of a third run; that is, if his efforts to overturn the result of the recent US Elections didn’t come to fruition.

That was then. Today, the landscape is decidedly altered with Trump slipping to +1200 to win the Republican nomination and +2500 to win the 2024 US Elections at BetOnline Sportsbook (visit our BetOnline Review).

In the meanwhile, Mike Pence emerges as the top fave to clinch the Republican nomination in four years. His odds have been shortened to +250. The vice president has also seen his odds shorten to +600 for the 2024 US Elections, putting him as the top Republican choice and second best bet after Joe Biden and Kamala Harris (both at +500).
