The pass-happy Philadelphia Eagles travel to Charlotte to face the defensively-stout Carolina Panthers later today. The Eagles look to end a three-game slide, while the Panthers look to bounce back from their first loss of the season a week ago. Star Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey is slated to miss this one, but there are plenty of other players worth looking at when it comes to player props.
Let’s jump into this NFL Week 5 matchup with a look at the best Eagles vs. Panthers player props picks.
The Top Eagles vs. Panthers Player Prop Picks
Jalen Hurts Under 240.5 Passing Yards
Yes, everyone is well aware that Nick Sirianni wants to throw the ball. And throw the ball. And throw the ball.
After all, he has asked an inexperienced quarterback to throw the ball a total of 87 times over the last two weeks. Granted, Hurts passed for 300+ yards in each of those games, but the fact of the matter is, the Eagles gave up 40+ points both times, losing each game by double digits.

The printed tees and pen in the visor routines will wear quickly around Philadelphia if Sirianni doesn’t do just that. To that end, he must get his running backs the ball more than 13 times across two games.
This time, the Eagles won’t be facing the 31st, 27th, 21st, or even 10th best pass defense in the league, like they did in their first four games. Instead, they are on the road at the league’s second best pass defense, which allows just 156.5 yards per game through the air. Worse still, Philly will be trying to throw the ball into a Panthers defense that allows just 143.5 yards passing at home, also second best in the NFL.

Opponents are completing just 27.2 passes per game against the Panthers, also the league’s second best mark. And after watching the Cowboys gash the Panthers for 245 yards on the ground while handing the Panthers their first defeat last week, you would think the fairly obvious lightbulb may go off in this situation.

D.J. Moore Under 5.5 Receptions
This is a bit of a tricky one, given the fact that D.J. Moore has caught six or more passes in all four games this season, while receiving double-digit targets in each of the Panthers’ last three games. He’s also rushed the ball once in three of his team’s outings thus far.
Carolina is clearly trying to get the ball in Moore’s hands as often as possible and he obviously has quarterback Sam Darnold’s trust.

However, we think this is a nice spot to take a try at the under on Moore’s receptions.
For starters, the Eagles boast the league’s seventh best pass defense, allowing just 204.0 yards per game through the air.
Perhaps more notably, when on the road, the Eagles jump to third best at just 178.0 passing yards allowed per contest. Now, you may be unmoved by passing yardage numbers with regards to a receptions prop, but Philadelphia is also tied for fourth fewest pass attempts against thus far (30.2 attempts per game) and sit top ten in fewest completions per game against on the road (21.0).

Only two receivers have topped this prop’s number in receptions against the Eagles this season. Tyreek Hill (11 catches on 12 targets) and Deebo Samuel (six catches on eight targets) are both receivers who can line up all over the formation and use pre-snap motion to create space. Moore is more of a traditional outside-the-numbers guy, the likes of which the Eagles have relatively kept in check this season.
In 2020, Moore only caught six or more balls in three of his 15 games, never topping eight catches. We will bet he falls short of the number today.
Miles Sanders Longest Rush Over 13.5 Yards
It’s true that the rookie back Kenneth Gainwell has seemed to supplant Miles Sanders as Philadelphia’s choice in third down and goal-to-go situations. However, those aren’t the scenarios upon which we are relying to cash this prop and we think Sanders will get his chances to have at least one run of 14 or more yards.

The Cowboys seemed to expose something in this young Panthers’ defense last week when they piled up 245 yards on the ground behind Ezekiel Elliott, Tony Pollard, and Dak Prescott. Who better to replicate that array of options running the ball than Jalen Hurts, Sanders, and Gainwell?

Yes, Sirianni has shown a great reluctance to run the ball with any regularity thus far in the season, but the opportunity to exploit a weakness by doing so is glaring this week.
The Carolina defense could tee off on the run early this season as they faced two rookies and a quarterback who didn’t start any games in 2020 to begin their campaign. Carolina had not allowed a single run longer than this prop’s requirement in any of the first three games of the season as a result. And then Dallas exploited the unit for seven runs by three different guys for 14 or more yards each. Call that injury-related or something the Cowboys picked up on in the short prep week after their Monday night game. The Eagles will likely try to do replicate that plan.
Sanders ripped off a 23-yarder in Week 1 and a 24-yarder in Week 3, despite only being handed the ball twice in the Dallas game. Previously this season, the Penn State product had broken off a run of at least 14 yards in over half of his NFL games. He should get more chances in this one than he has in recent weeks.
