Heading in to the weekend make sure to listen to The Fantasy Footballers podcast on the following platforms –
Monday – Monday Punday, Fantasy Studs, and Duds
Andy is back in the studio, and the gang is together again! And wow, Week 9 was complete anarchy in the NFL. After getting sophisticated with Monday Punday, Andy, Mike, and Jason jump into dissecting an intriguing week of football.
News
Davante Parker was placed on IR, and Tua did not start Sunday due to an injury in his hand. Chase Edmonds left the game with a high ankle sprain after one play. Zack Moss left with a concussion, Trevor Lawrence had an ankle injury, and both New England RBs got hurt. David Montgomery is also looking to play for the Bears tonight but temper your expectations.
Studs
Welcome back, Justin Herbert! After a couple of bad weeks, Herbert looked like himself again. Lamar Jackson had another 100-yard rushing game, and he is now tied with the most with Michael Vick. The possible playoff-bound Atlanta Falcons had a great day with Matt Ryan. Carson Wentz and Teddy Bridgewater also were victorious. On to RBs, and the big name here is James Connor. Connor is currently the RB8 on the season, and with Chase Edmonds sidelined for a couple of weeks, Connor is a solid start. Jonathan Taylor, Nick Chubb, and Joe Mixon had great showings. Cordarrelle Patterson continued his consistent production. The best WRs this week were a bunch of guys no one played. Elijah Moore excelled with the backup to the backup. DeVonta Smith went off and had the best game of his young career, Tim Patrick had a great game, and Keenan Allen was classic Keenan Allen. Much to Andy’s joy Brandon Aiuyk also had success. With TEs, George Kittle is back, and Travis Kelce got back in the end zone.
Duds
Josh Allen is the biggest pooper of the week. Patrick Mahomes has also been sliding, and people who drafted these two guys early are getting a bit nervous. Joe Burrow was bad, and Matthew Stafford did not look like himself. With RBs, Jason is concerned about Aaron Jones with the AJ Dillon effect. Darrell Henderson, Boston Scott, and Mike Davis all had terrible games. With WRs, Tyreek Hill, Davante Adams, and Ja’Marr Chase were the big names who did not have big games. Mark Andrews and Kyle Pitts had disappointing games as well.
Good luck tonight if you need that classic Monday Night Miracle!
Wednesday – Monday Night Recap, Where There’s Smoke, There’s Fire, Waivers, Streamers
Monday Night Recap
A game riddled with an abundance of ridiculous penalties still showcased the best game of Justin Fields so far. David Montgomery came right back in to get the majority of carries after spending time on IR. Andy asks if you can drop Chase Claypool, as he keeps getting hurt and is not having successful games. On the positive side, The Muth was so so Luth.
Where There’s Smoke, There’s Fire
Carson Wentz has had three straight top 12 weeks, despite losing some pass-catchers. Is he a viable fantasy option moving forward? Jason believes he is a decent streamer, but he will be unable to dominate difficult matchups, so he is hot smoke instead of fire. Next up is Kenyan Drake, who has been a top 13 RB for three straight weeks. With a Henry Ruggs loss, is Drake going to keep this up? Andy thinks he has a flex shot any given week. Mike feels like he has a very low floor, so you must be aware of that possibility if you are flexing him. Jason is buying this, he believes his utilization will continue to go up, and there is always the chance that Josh Jacobs could physically go down.
News
Russell Wilson will return from IR this week, and Chris Carson will gingerly practice this week. Logan Thomas’s window to return happens this week as well. The guys continue to muse on OBJ’s landing spot.
We start the segment by looking at drop candidates. Jason thinks you can hold onto Marvin Jones, Julio Jones, and perhaps Courtland Sutton. If Hunter Renfrow and Christian Kirk are on your waiver wire, these guys need to be picked up. Going a little deeper, Andy says you can consider Donavon Peoples-Jones, and if Rashod Batemen is on the wire, he must be rostered. Elijah Moore also has potential, and you can try with Russell Gage. With RBs, Jason suggests not holding Khalil Herbert through the bye and using that roster spot for someone more valuable. Andy says to double-check with the waiver wire and look if Smooches or Kenyan Drake happen to be there. Diving deeper, Jordan Howard and Alex Collins can still be options. The New England RB room is risky; Rhamondre Stevenson had a great game but looks to be injured. Mike suggests targeting Mark Ingram and Eno Benjamin. TE wise, Jason continues to sing the praises of Pat Freiermuth but also mentions Logan Thomas. Baltimore, Arizona, and possibly Dallas are defensive options.
Streamers
QB streamers of the week include Trevor Lawrence, Carson Wentz, and Teddy Bridgewater. As Andy says, you can stream him and survive, and sometimes that is all you need.
Good luck on the waiver wire!
Wednesday – Buy or Sell, Let’s Talk Trades, Thursday Night Breakdown
Buy or Sell
We start with D’Andre Swift returning from the bye – is he a top 12 RB this week? Swift plays against Pittsburgh, who allows the 2ndfewest RB points per game, but Swift is not a classic RB. That being said, Andy, Mike, and Jason are all selling this. Next is Mike Williams. Will he have at least four catches against Minnesota? Williams’ catches have decreased over the last few weeks, yet Jason is buying this stat. Andy and Mike agree that he will get back on track. Finally, is Jalen Hurts a top 12 QB versus Denver? All the guys buy this stat. Bad for football, great for fantasy.
News
A lawsuit was filed against Dalvin Cook for domestic abuse, and we are waiting for more news. OBJ is a free agent, and we are still waiting to see where he will land. Jason and Mike think that Green Bay would be the best landing spot for him. Nick Chubb landed on the Covid list, and D’Ernest Johnson’s value has skyrocketed for the week. Sam Darnold has a fractured scapula, which was apparently difficult to find. The New Orleans Saints have also brought a few RBs to practice, making Jason question whether Kamara is banged up.
Let’s Talk Trades
We start our trade discussion with Antonio Gibson. Jason mentions that you hope his health is good coming out of the bye and potentially getting a QB change soon. However, that might just be glass half full. The vibes in Washington seem bad, and one week of rest will not be enough to heal Antonio Gibson. You might be able to sell Gibson in that he is past his bye, but you will need to package him immediately, Mike says. Next in the discussion is Aaron Jones. Mike says to block out all that Packer noise and go trade for him. Jones is the RB 8 on the year, and he is a workhorse back that can win you your year. Jason is a little nervous with AJ Dillon on the roster but still agrees that he is a trade-for candidate. On to Pat Friermuth and TJ Hockenson. With the Muth becoming Luth, TJ Hockenson could now be a player to cash in on. Andy is nervous about trading away any TE, and Jason adds that he is still a first-year player who can have bad weeks. Darrell Henderson is the last potential trade target. With a buy coming up, Henderson is a hold for Mike.
Thursday Night Breakdown
The Baltimore Ravens take on the Miami Dolphins, with Tua being a game-time decision. Jason does not think he will be the starter. In this matchup, Andy is a big fan of Mike Gesicki, but any other offensive weapons are questionable. Mike does not hate Jaylon Waddle. Lamar and Hollywood Brown are locked in on the Baltimore side, and Rashod Batemen is also an option. Mark Andrews is also a start.
Thursday – Never Not Working, Fantasy Forecast, Starts of the Week, Boom Boom Kicker
Welcome in to the Veteran’s Day show – thank you, and it is football time!
Never Not Working
Today, Andy, Mike, and Jason are talking about second-half winners. Not only the players that will get us there but what signs to look for. We are addressing the QBs and RBs and how many players are making that tier jump. In 2018 we had the Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson rushing explosion; in 2019, we had the two Ryan’s (Tannehill and Fitzpatrick), having second-half explosions, and last year we saw the same with Cousins and Carr. In eyeing a second-half stud, we are looking for room for positive TD regression, untapped rushing upside, and rookies getting a bump. Mike says Daniel Jones could be successful, and Trevor Lawrence has a schedule that opens up. For RBs, we are looking at young players, a great schedule, room for positive TD regression, and the potential the backfield will open up. David Montgomery seems poised for a tremendous second half, just like last year. Also, target Elijah Mitchel and Michael Carter.
News
Alvin Kamara has a mild knee sprain, so keep an eye out on those practice reports. Also, Chase Claypool will miss some time but is not out for the season.
Fantasy Forecast
The guys jump right into the Fantasy Forecast. The playoff-bound Atlanta Falcons take on the Dallas Cowboys to start us off. Cordarrelle Patterson has been incredibly consistent, and you start him, no questions asked. Matt Ryan looked great last week, and Andy believes you now have a fantasy worthy team. On the other side, Dak seeks redemption, so start all the Cowboys. Mike says Michael Gallup should be stashed. Next, the New Orleans Saints play the Titans in Andy’s almost upset of the week. With all the issues in New Orleans, the Titans are a great defensive play. Tennesse’s success would come through the passing game, but Andy does not have full confidence there. Be on the watch for Alvin Kamara. Jacksonville travels to Indy to play the Colts. Jason says Trevor Lawrence is a good QB to stream and Andy suggests getting Marvin Jones in your lineup. The Postman will also be delivering. On the other side, it is Taylor and Pittman. Cleveland heads east to take on the Pats. Andy is unsure that Baker can get it done this week with the loss of many options. If Chubb is available, you start him and D’Ernest Johnson is your option if Chubb is out. We are still waiting to hear the status of the NE RBs. The Bills try to right the ship against the Mike White-led New York Jets. Andy is not playing a Jet unless there is an emergency. Start all your Bills but keep your ear to the ground with Zack Moss sitting out. Finally, the still winless Detroit Lions play the Pittsburgh Steelers. Play Najee and Diontae, but Andy is concerned with a low-scoring affair. For the Lions, Jason says star Swift and Hockenson. The question is, can you stay Luth with the Muth?
For starts of the week, Andy loves Dak, Melvonte (Melvin Gordon and Javonte Williams), and Mike Gesicki. Mike is starting Ryan Tannehill, D’Ernest Johnson (if Chubb is out), and continues to live in Pitty City. Jason suggests Jalen Hurts, Darrell Henderson, and Dan Arnold.
We end the episode with the now-classic Jason’s Boom Boom Kicker segment.
Friday – Thursday Night Recap, Fantasy Forecast
Thursday Night Recap
What a gross game. Mike said it was so frustrating to watch Lamar at the Ravens get shut down play after play. Lamar managed to salvage a decent fantasy game, but Gesicki had zero catches. Rashod Bateman continues to look outstanding, and that was the only real bright spot for the Ravens last night.
News
OBJ is now a Los Angeles Ram. Andy says what we are all thinking, this might not be as good as people think it might be. For fantasy, this is bad for almost everyone. Booty Scootin Cam Newton is back with the Carolina Panthers. The guys do not even need to change the graphic or the drop. People are pessimistic about Kamara’s availability, Chris Godwin is a game-time decision, and Kyler did not practice. There is a chance that Rhamondre Stevenson will play. When making decisions this week, make sure to tune in to Matthew Betz and his injury blitz podcast.
Fantasy Forecast
We start today with the Tampa Bay Bucs traveling to take on the Washington Football Team. The Bucs have several players questionable and are focused on the long game, so they might focus more on Leonard Fournette this week. On the other side of the football, Gibson is still limited, and Mike is benching him. Carolina heads to the desert to play the Cardinals in a low over/under match. Christian McCaffrey is back in and hopefully seeing more snaps this week, and Jason thinks this could be a low-scoring affair. Next is Minnesota against the Chargers. This should be a competitive game; you start your main Chargers, and Jason says you can still start Mike Williams in a pretty good matchup. Dalvin Cook is a great play this week. The Eagles head West to play the Denver Broncos, and the guys are behind both Denver RBs and are heavily considering Jerry Jeudy. The matchup is also good for Noah Fant. On the other side, Jordan Howard is actually a good option. The Seahawks take on the Packers, and Russ returns to the kitchen. Temper your expectations for the somewhat confusing Seahawks backfield. Aaron Rodgers is on track to return and you usual Packers are starts. The Chiefs play the Raiders in an AFC battle. You are starting all your Chiefs and holding your breath that they get it together. Raiders-wise, Carr is streamable, Waller is a go, and Hunter Renfrow is a possibility. Finally, on Monday night, the Los Angeles Rams take on the 49ers. On the Rams side, you start your usuals, and Jason said he is not making any OBJ type changes until his hand is forced. On the other side, Mike is starting the Missile and Brandon Aiyuk, and the world is better with George Kittle in it.
