Super Bowl 54 Betting Recap

Super Bowl 54 was a pretty fun one! I liked the middle of the game the best and the end was even better. I thought the choreography of the halftime show was some of the best we’ve seen but nothing in the world could beat seeing the smile on Andy Reid’s face.

He was perhaps the most overdue head coach to win a Super Bowl ever.

We can save that debate for another day, though. I’ve never been high on the 49ers as so many other kids jumped on that bandwagon when I was little. I’ve also never been on the Jimmy G bandwagon whatsoever.

He lacks ice in his veins and I think that showed.

How did the big game from a year ago play out from a betting perspective? Well, that is a fairly complicated answer because after all, Super Bowl weekend is the biggest betting weekend of the year and if you need any help with how to bet on it, check our complete Super Bowl betting guide here.

Today, let’s just recap how things went for backers of each team, the point totals, spreads, and moneylines as well.

Moneyline

Kansas City Chiefs
-125
San Francisco 49ers
+105

The Kansas City Chiefs ended up winning the game by 11 points at 31-20 but as we know, it was a much closer ball game.

Moneyline betters backing the Kansas City Chiefs had one heck of a sweat there for a while but somehow, Andy Reid was able to make the adjustments and most importantly, in my opinion, quarterback Patrick Mahomes loosened up and that made all the difference.

He was nervous playing in his first Super Bowl as any man would be regardless of talent or skill level but Patty shook it off by the second half and led his team to a win and won himself the Super Bowl MVP.

Before the game, I thought the moneyline certainly had value on the side of the Kansas City Chiefs. San Fran had been dominant in the playoffs especially in the NFC Championship game where they obilderated the Green Bay Packers but KC is just bilt different.

I think we all gained inspiration from the halftime show and the Kansas City Chiefs were no different.

Point Spread

Kansas City Chiefs -1.5
-110
San Francisco 49ers +1.5
-110

The Kansas City Chiefs came into Super Bowl 54 having covered the spread in 8 of their previous 8 games including the postseason so what was a minuscule 1.5?

The worry was the running game of the Niners. If they could run the ball down the throat of the Kansas City Chiefs and get some touchdowns to keep pace, they would give themselves a good chance at victory.

This strategy, of course, is highlighted by the fact that a running attack shortens the game as well as keeps the vaunted Chiefs’ offense on the sidelines. The Niners ran the ball well in the first half but once they fell behind such a powerful offense, they knew that game plan had to be tossed.

KC covered the spread fairly easily considering even a touchdown and a 2 point conversion at the end of the game wouldn’t have made a difference.

Point Total

Over 53
-110
Under 53
-110

This is the one that nearly got everyone in the end. The under was, of course, looking great at halftime with the score locked at 10 points apiece.

The Kansas City Chiefs are like the unstoppable force and unfortunately for San Fran, they were not the immovable object. After the Niners put up 10 to the Chiefs 0 in the third quarter, the under was even stronger.

Then, Mahomes finally relaxed and the throws came to him. 21 points later, the Chiefs were up 31-20 in the 4th quarter and San Francisco squandered any opportunity of a comeback when they went 2 and out on their final possession.

Virginia Tech Hokie, Kendall Fuller, picked off Garoppolo at the San Fran 25 yard line. The backers of the over wanted the Chiefs to kick a field goal here which would have put them up 14 points.

But why? They knew they only had 5 seconds to burn on the final play and that’s why Mahomes did with a little run around and heave.

In Conclusion

Super Bowl 54 was one of my favorite Super Bowls partly because it reminds me of a point in time right before the world was turned upside.

I was in the Philippines and watching the game with a room full of Air Force Veterans at the house of a lifelong Kansas City native and fan. Things got a little quiet heading into the 4th quarter but we were celebrating by 10 am, I think it was.

Betting on the big game is always fun. With all of the action coming in from virtually everyone in the country, the lines might not always have the most value but that’s not what it’s about.

This is the final football game of the year and fun is to be had!

Everything from the coin toss to the moneyline to live bets all the way down to the 2 minute warning will keep fans on the edge of the couch. Just don’t spill the beer you have between your legs on my new digs, okay?
