The 21/22 Spanish La Liga season starts in two weeks! And while the hype isn’t as strong as with the English Premier League, people still expect La Liga to show off a superb three-way title race. Of course, the team in question are Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid.
- If Barcelona win, it might even be Messi’s final trophy for the Nou Camp team.
- If Real Madrid win, it’s probably the end of Modrić’s era.
- If it’s Atletico Madrid, chances are we might see them attack the third consecutive title next season with the same exact team.
Jokes aside, everybody sees Barcelona as the main favorite for winning the new season of La Liga. Our Top Four La Liga predictions reveal that sports bookies find the Blaugrana as the favorites.
What’s the reasoning behind this, seeing as Atletico Madrid won the last season? I mean, sure, Real Madrid will have to go through a rebuild sooner or later, but Atletico still has the same core and won’t back down from winning their second consecutive season.
Well, more on that can be found in the remainder of our can Barcelona win La Liga blog!
Will Messi Stay in Barca?
This is the biggest question of them all – will Messi stay at Nou Camp for another year? Remember, the 34-year-old is currently without a club since his Barcelona contract expired and he hasn’t signed a new one yet. Just hop on over to Messi’s TransferMarkt page if you don’t believe me. It clearly states the Argentinian maestro has been without a club since July 1st.
But, is he really going to leave Barcelona? Well, it could happen… but I don’t think it will as Sergio Aguero signed for the Blaugrana. Lionel and Sergio have an outstanding relationship in and out of the game; Messi is Godfather to Aguero’s son Benjamin, which just goes to show you how close they are.
Even if the Koke/Saul & Griezmann trade comes to no fruition, Barca’s chances are high. However, if Messi leaves Camp Nou this summer, it will be nearly impossible for Barca to lift the trophy at the end of the season. There, that’s good enough for this section!
Wijnaldum Should’ve Joined Nou Camp Too
Moving on, Wijnaldum was supposed to be Barca’s big signing this year. However, the Dutch midfielder was tired of Barca’s waiting game and signed a deal with PSG instead. What could’ve been the second big transfer from Premier League to Barcelona this summer ended with an abrupt change of heart.
Barca’s waiting game coupled with wage issues were enough to make Gini switch his mind and opt for France instead.
Wijnaldum would’ve been the perfect fit for Barca’s style of play. His physical dominance, on and off the ball skills, and second-to-none-game IQ make him a world-class player. With him, PSG has great chances of winning all competitions they compete in next year.
On a brighter note, Barcelona did manage to sign another Dutch star. As you probably know, Memphis Depay signed a deal with Barcelona earlier this summer. The Lyon faithful had several outstanding seasons in France following a sloppy tenure at Old Trafford. How will he fit into La Liga’s ways? I guess we won’t have to wait too long to find out!

How Will Aguero Adapt to La Liga Football?
Aguero left Pep’s Manchester City and joined Barcelona in what’s currently the most notable transfer this summer. There was no transfer fee as the Argentinian’s contract with the Etihad club came to an end, but that doesn’t diminish the size of the transfer.
The real question is, though, what will Aguero manage in the first season. We know settling in won’t be an issue, but delivering performances and numbers similar to those he had in the Premier League is a different ballgame.
If he can rise up to the challenge and be the leader alongside Messi, then other teams will have to be cautious. If the Argentinian tandem starts grinding gears, it’s game over for everyone else!
Can Barcelona Win La Liga?
All of the above leads us to the big question – can Barcelona win La Liga this season? Well, it honestly depends on how the following pan out:
- Messi’s potential departure
- Aguero’s first season impact
- Pressure on Barca’s midfield
- High expectations in La Liga and CL
The extra pressure shouldn’t faze Barcelona’s players. They must be used to all that by now. However, if Barcelona fails to keep Messi at bay and doesn’t sign a proper replacement by the end of the transfer window, they could be in for a shocking (in a bad way) season.
The opposite could happen if Messi agrees to the wager cuts and Aguero has a record-setting first season playing alongside his son’s godfather. The same goes for Memphis Depay who will be under extra scrutiny at the start.
Either way, La Liga 21/22 promises to be interesting!
