Sidney Crosby has COVID

The Flyers play the Penguins Thursday night Pittsburgh, and the Yinzer fans out there will be disappointed to know that Sidney Crosby has COVID-19.

From Greg Wyshynski at ESPN, which now gives a shit about hockey because they have the broadcasting rights:

Crosby is experiencing mild symptoms and is in the NHL COVID-19 protocol… He missed practice on Wednesday because of the positive test.

Crosby, 34, had just returned to the Penguins’ lineup Saturday after undergoing left wrist surgery on Sept. 8. He missed the team’s first seven games, and the Penguins went 3-2-2 in his absence.

Players who test positive for COVID-19 are placed in isolation. Players can leave isolation after at least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared; at least 24 hours have passed since the last fever without the use of fever-reducing medications; and when team physicians conclude that the individual no longer presents a risk of infection to others.

The Pens have three other guys in the protocol. Brian Dumoulin tested positive but is asymptomatic, so he can return after two negative tests that are 24 hours apart. Defensemen Marcus Pettersson and Chad Ruhwedel are the other players.

Pittsburgh has lost three straight games, all at home, giving up 5, 4, and 4 goals in the process.  New addition Danton Heinen leads the team with six points while former Flyer Jeff Carter, now 36, has four points. Evgeni Malkin is recovering from right knee surgery and unavailable.
