India cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has been admitted to hospital ‘as a matter of abundant precaution’ after testing positive for coronavirus.
The iconic batsman, 47, had been in quarantine at home in Mumbai after suffering from mild symptoms of the virus last week.
He tweeted on Friday: “Thank you for your wishes and prayers. As a matter of abundant precaution under medical advice, I have been hospitalised. I hope to be back home in a few days.
“Take care and stay safe everyone. Wishing all Indians & my teammates on the 10th anniversary of our World Cup win.”
Tendulkar, one of the greatest batsman in the history of cricket, retired in 2013 and most of his records remain in tact.
The ‘Little Master’ remains the highest scoring player in international cricket, holding the record for most runs in both Tests and ODIs.
Over an incredible 24-year career, he became the only batsman in history to rack up 100 international centuries.
Mumbai, in the state of Maharashtra, remains one of the hardest hit cities as India struggles with a new wave of COVID-19 cases.
Maharashtra announced 43,183 new infections on Friday, with 8,646 in Mumbai, both a new high for a single day since the pandemic began.
