Premier League 2021/22 fixtures announced: Man United vs Leeds, Brentford vs Arsenal and Tottenham vs Man City among opening day games

The fixtures for the 2021/22 Premier League season were announced on Wednesday morning.

There are some tasty games in store on the opening day, which will see Manchester City begin their Premier League title defence against Tottenham.

The season starts on August 14 – just 34 days after the Euro 2020 final – and is sure to set up some thrilling battles with Manchester United, Liverpool and Champions League winners Chelsea all expected to be on top form.

And they will need to be to stop City winning a sixth Premier League title.

Pep Guardiola’s champions will get their campaign going away to Tottenham, who are expected to appoint Paulo Fonseca as their new manager this week.

There are some other tasty opening day games as Manchester United face old rivals Leeds at Old Trafford to start their season.

Brentford, in the Premier League for the first time in their history after winning the Championship play-off final, will host Arsenal in a London derby.

Fellow newly-promoted sides Norwich and Watford are also at home on their return to the top-flight.

Norwich, the Championship title winners, will play Liverpool at Anfield while Watford welcome Aston Villa to Vicarage Road.

Elsewhere, Chelsea host Crystal Palace in a London derby, while Newcastle and West Ham meet again on the opening day for the second successive season.

Exact dates and kick-off times of all games will be confirmed when the television and radio selections are made.

It is hoped stadiums will be at full capacity by the start of next season, with the majority of the 2020/21 season played behind closed doors due to COVID restrictions.
