NFL Week 7 Weather Conditions (Fantasy Football)

Most of the games this week will be played in mild weather conditions, but the Indianapolis vs San Francisco matchup is looking windy and wet. I’m not sure it’s going to have too great of an impact on fantasy since both teams pretty much rely on the run game and then hope their QB can do just enough to pull out the win. That’s probably good news for folks relying on players in this game especially given the number of injuries and byes this week.

Post Publishing Updates

This article will be updated leading up to the games right in this section and below. I’ll also post updates on Twitter on Sunday morning with a final update around 12:30 pm ET if necessary.

Update: IND @ SF. The good news is, the winds don’t look as bad. The timeline got pushed up a little bit from what was forecasted just yesterday so the high winds we expected for the beginning of the game have passed. Winds will likely op out around 14 mph. Still breezy, but not the 20+ we were expecting yesterday.

The bad news is the rain that was expected to follow the high winds will now be present for the whole game. We’re looking at something around 1″ of rain falling over the course of the game. This is shaping up to be a Jonathan Taylor vs. Elijah Mitchell slug fest. Unless this game starts to become a blowout, I don’t see either of these teams passing very much.

CHI @ TB: It’s not a for sure, but there a some scattered T-storms in the TB area. I hate to say 50/50, but chances are about 50/50 this game gets hit with a storm at some points. If it does get hit, there may be delays because of lightning. These storms can also pack a wallop with .5″/hr+ rain. Keep your fingers crossed. I still don’t see how you bench Tom Brady, Mike Evans, and Chris Godwin but heavy rains could be a problem. I wouldn’t touch Allen Robinson if you have a similar alternative. Justin Fields may actually finally get to use his legs.

Fantasy Impact: This is shaping up to be a game played in two different conditions. Winds at kickoff will be in the 20-21 mph sustained range. The winds will start to die down around the end of the first quarter and continue dropping down to about 14 mph, but that’s when the rain starts. We’re likely going to see .25-.5 inches of rain fall during the last three quarters of the game. Obviously the timeline can shift left or right but we’re going to see high winds and rain during this game.

Jimmy Garoppolo returns as the starter with Trey Lance declared out for Sunday’s game. Garoppolo tends to keep pass attempts close to the line of scrimmage. He’s one of the least aggressive QBs in the league and his average intended air yards is lower than all but Jared Goff and Matt Ryan. Between the winds and rain, we can expect more of the same. This means that San Francisco’s offensive game plan won’t be too altered by the weather. We can expect a heavy dose of Elijah Mitchell and plays designed to spread the defense horizontally. With George Kittle sidelined, Brandon Aiyuk should see a bump in targets and Deebo Samuel should continue to get double-digit looks. If you’re desperate at TE, Ross Dwelley isn’t exactly a target magnet, but he does have a good nose for finding the endzone on his limited opportunities.

Carson Wentz is far more aggressive than Garoppolo, but he’s more middle of the pack in terms of average intended air yards. With T.Y. Hilton out and LG Quenton Nelson will be back in the lineup, expect Indianapolis to pound San Francisco with Jonathan Taylor who is on a three-game TD streak reducing Carson Wentz‘s ceiling. Michael Pittman should draw plenty of targets with Hilton out, but that’s about it for the Indianapolis offense.

Ohh and kickers…can’t forget about kickers. I would definitely look to stream someone other than Michael Badgley or Joey Slye.
