NBA Picks March 21: Lakers versus Suns Featured Game

Heading into the third weekend in March and teams are inching closer to playoff berths. There are numerous games scheduled for March 21 with the Lakers and Suns battling near the top of the Western Conference.

Los Angeles Lakers versus Phoenix Suns

The Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers are 2nd and 3rd seeds in the Western Conference, respectively. Phoenix has a +27 to +25 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator, while both teams are “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator.  The Totals Predictor indicates the teams trending on opposite sides of the “over/under” line. The Lakers are +18 to +3 on the Team Volatility Oscillator, indicating they are much more consistent according to their favorite/underdog status. The teams split the last two meetings and expect this one to be close. I give the edge to the Suns playing at home.

New Orleans Pelicans versus Denver Nuggets

The Pelicans are on the outside of the playoff race looking in and the Nuggets are 5th in the Western Conference. Denver has a +23 to +14 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and “burning hot” versus “ice cold” down on the Team Strength Oscillator. It’s best to avoid betting the “over/under” with the teams trending on opposite sides of the line. Consider the fact that the Nuggets are much more stable and playing at home, making a bet on them that much more attractive. The Nuggets will win and cover the spread.

Washington Wizards versus Brooklyn Nets

The Nets are tied with the 76ers for the top spot in the Eastern Conference. They are “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator and +29 on the Power Ranking Indicator. On the flip side, the Wizards are “dead” and +4. Interestingly enough, the Wizards won the previous two meetings between the teams, but under far different circumstances. The teams have been trending under the line, but last two meetings were high scoring, so expect the same this time around. The Nets are too powerful and will win at home and cover.

Dallas Mavericks versus Portland Trailblazers

Dallas enters as the 8th seed in the Western Conference versus the 6th seeded Trailblazers. Both teams are +16 on the Power Ranking Indicator and “average up” on the Team Strength Oscillator. The Totals Predictor shows that the teams are on opposite sides of the line, indicating a no-bet as the safest option. Portland won the last meeting between the teams by three points on the road. They are the more consistent team at +9 to +5 on the Team Volatility Oscillator. Consider that and they will be at home and it looks like another win for the Trailblazers by a margin similar to their last meeting.

Orlando Magic versus Boston Celtics

The Celtics are the 7th seed in the Eastern Conference and the Magic have struggled all season, next to last in the conference. The Celtics have a +15 to +3 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and “average down” versus “dead” on the Team Strength Oscillator.  Expect a high-scoring game, so betting the “over” is a wise play. Orlando has been more consistent in performing according to their favorite/underdog status. Boston won the first meeting between the teams by 27 points and there is no indication that this game will be any different. Boston will win by double-digits.
