Including continuations of in-progress suspensions, we have 17 games Major League Baseball on Sunday to conclude the week in Major League Baseball. It is headlined by the Sunday Night Game of the Week on ESPN, featuring the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees. This showdown is getting the same game parlay treatment it deserves, and we break it down here. Be sure to check out our full game preview for picks on the side and total, as well.
Red Sox ML (+108)
Jameson Taillon Under 5.5 strikeouts (-128)
Xander Bogaerts to hit a home run (+350)
Parlay odds: +1013
Part of the value in same game parlays, of course, is that all of its components can be correlated if you so choose. That is the entire plan here, as Lucas Giolito mowing down batters left and right would obviously go well with a Chicago win. Jose Abreu going deep would do the same. Let’s discuss each of the three legs one by one.
Red Sox ML (+108)
The Yankees finally beat the Red Sox for the first time in 2021 on Saturday, but that was because Gerrit Cole was on the mound. Plus the game was called after six innings because of inclement weather, so there is a decent chance New York would have ended up blowng that game. Sunday’s pitching matchup between Jameson Taillon of the Yankees and Martin Perez of the Red Sox appears to be even, while Boston’s lineup is far better the moment given all of the Bronx Bombers’ injury issues. They are still without Aaron Judge, Gio Urshela, and Luke Voit.
Jameson Taillon Under 5.5 strikeouts (-128)
Taillon has 86 strikeouts in 82.2 innings this season, but in three of his last four starts he has recorded fewer strikeouts than innings pitched. He has reached the six-strikeout mark just six times in 2021. The right-hander faced Boston on June 6 and struck out a mere three hitters in 5.1 innings. There are only three guys on the Red Sox roster who have fanned 70-plus times this year, so they are going to make Taillon work for everything he gets.
Xander Bogaerts to hit a home run (+350)
Bogaerts has gone deep in two of his last three games. He has also hit safely in four of his last five, which includes a three-hit effort the Angels last Wednesday. The shortstop is batting .318 for the season and is clearly still feeling it at th moment. It is worth noting that Bogaerts has been every bit as good against righties as he has been against lefties throughout his career, so there should be no concern that he is facing the right-handed Taillon on Sunday night. Taillon has surrendered five home runs in his last three appearances, including three against Oakland on June 29 and two against Houston in his most recent outing last weekend.
