MLB Picks August 29: Yankees Look to Extend Surge Against Athletics

The MLB season is quickly entering the last month of the season and playoff races are heating up. The is a full schedule of games with much on the line.  The featured game is the surging Yankees against the AL West’s second-place team, the Oakland Athletics.

New York Yankees versus Oakland Athletics

The Yankees come in with a 12-game winning streak and are second in the American League East. Oakland is in the mix in the American League West, currently in second place. New York has a +29 to +6 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and “burning hot” versus “dead” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Jordan Montgomery is scheduled to pitch for the Yankees and Paul Blackburn is set to take the mound for the Athletics. Montgomery is 5-5 with a 3.69 ERA and +$587 on the Pitcher Profit Oscillator, while Blackburn is 0-1 with a 4.09 ERA and -$100 in a small sample size. The Scores Predictor has the Yankees in a 9-4 win with 74 percent confidence and the Totals Predictor shows teams trending on opposite sides of the over/under line. Go with the Yankees to win, but avoid the over/under.

Boston Red Sox versus Cleveland Indians

The Red Sox enter play in 3rd place in the American League East and the Indians are 2nd in the American League Central. Cleveland has a +22 to +13 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator and “burning hot” versus “average” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Neither team has named their starting pitcher for this game. The scores Predictor has the Indians winning by a convincing 9-0 margin with 68 percent confidence. The Totals Predictor shows both teams have been trending in games “over” the line.  I see the Indians winning easily in a high-scoring game. Betting “over” is a smart play.

San Francisco Giants versus Atlanta Braves

In a battle between two first-place teams in the National League, the Braves host the Giants. Atlanta is “average” on the Team Strength Oscillator and +18 on the Power Ranking Indicator while the Giants are surging at +24 and “burning hot”, respectively. Neither team has committed to their starting pitcher. The Scores Predictor gives the Giants a big edge with a score of 7-1 with 82 percent confidence.  The Totals Predictor is showing that both teams have been trending in low-scoring games “under” the line. The feel is that the Giants will continue to roll, win this game and cover, but avoid the “over/under” bet.

Colorado Rockies versus Los Angeles Dodgers

The Dodgers are the hottest team in the National League and are making a run in the National League West. They have won their last 12 games, are +23 on the Power Ranking Indicator and “burning hot” on the Team Strength Oscillator. The Rockies are 4th in the division, +14 and “average”, respectively.  Antonio Senzatela is scheduled to pitch for the Rockies and the Dodgers have yet to name their starter. Senzatela is 2-9 with a 4.42 ERA and -$648 on the Pitcher Profit Oscillator. The Dodgers are picked to win this game by a 4-2 score with 66 percent confidence, according to the Scores Predictor. The Totals Predictor also indicates that “under” is a good play.  Pick the Dodgers and “under”.

Toronto Blue Jays versus Detroit Tigers

The Blue Jays enter play in 4th place in the American League East and the Tigers are 3rd in the American League Central. Neither team is playing their best at the moment as indicated by “average down” status for both teams on the Team Strength Oscillator. The Tigers have a +20 to +11 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator.  Jose Berrios is scheduled to pitch for the Blue Jays. He is 8-7 with a 3.70 ERA and a poor bet at -$268 dollars. The Tigers have yet to name their starter. The Scores Predictor has the Blue Jays winning by a 7-5 margin with 74 percent confidence. On the Totals Predictor, notice both teams have been involved in games “under” the line.  The conflicting information leads me to avoid the over/under, but pick the Blue Jays to come away with a road win.
