Martin Odegaard admits uncertainty over Arsenal future once loan from Real Madrid ends as Gunners linked with Emiliano Buendia as replacement

Martin Odegaard has admitted he ‘doesn’t know’ about his Arsenal future this summer when his loan spell from Real Madrid finishes.

Over the last 23 games of the Premier League, Arsenal have collected the second most points behind only champions Man City.

The club are thought to be keen on signing the 22-year-old permanently from Madrid, although the club has also been linked with a move for Norwich City’s Emiliano Buendia as a possible replacement,

And Odegaard was coy on his future when asked by talkSPORT, ahead of what could his final game for Arsenal against Brighton on Premier League final day on Sunday.

In an EXCLUSIVE interview, Odegaard said: “To be honest, I don’t know what is going to happen.

“I’m focused to finish the season well, then I have some games with the national team and then after that we’ll see what happens and sit down and talk.

Odegaard endeared himself to the Arsenal fans by scoring in the north London derby earlier this season – his impact in the team has gone beyond his record of two goals and one assist in 19 games for the Gunners

“I’m owned by Madrid so will have to talk to them and see what they think and then we can decide together about the future.

“At the moment, I don’t know what is going to happen.”

Reports this week suggest that Arsenal will step up their interest in Buendia amid the uncertainty surrounding Odegaard.

There are suggestions the Norway international could be given a chance with the Spanish club next season, but Zinedine Zidane is reportedly set to leave the club.

The playmaker has been something of a bright spot in a tough season for the club.

Arsenal are currently ninth in the Premier League and set to finish outside the European places.

Odegaard understood the fans’ frustrations and said it was good they were unhappy as it shows they care.

He said: “I think that’s normal. In a club like Arsenal, who wants to be at the top of the league and fight for titles and European football, it is normal when we’re not there the fans get disappointed.

“That’s a good thing, to be fair, it shows that a lot of people care about the club and want to be at the top.

“For me, it’s a good thing and we just have to work hard to show everyone we deserve to be at the top and we have that joy to be there.”
