Loris Karius about to swap Liverpool for worst team in Europe’s top five leagues but three Premier League clubs, including Newcastle make up top 10 list of poor sides

Liverpool outcast Loris Karius is set to complete his dramatic fall from grace by reportedly joining Bundesliga club Greuther Furth.

The goalkeeper hasn’t made a competitive appearance for the Reds since the 2018 Champions League final where he experienced an uncalled for backlash from some supporters.

Two jaw-dropping errors from him saw Real Madrid ease to a 3-1 win over his Liverpool team, ending his career at Anfield on the spot.

Two months later, manager Jurgen Klopp signed Alisson Becker for £56million and Liverpool haven’t looked back since.

Karius’ contract is due to run until the end of the season but the Merseysiders are prepared to let him leave in January with a potential return to Germany.

But the odds will be stacked against him to revive his career with Europe’s worst team interested in his services.

Newly-promoted Bundesliga side Greuther Furth have the lowest points total of any team in Europe’s major leagues this season, and have now lost both of their senior keepers to long-term injuries.

And earning their unwanted spot in that group of Europe’s worst are three Premier League teams so who are they? talkSPORT.com has a deeper look.

Burnley are on a run of three Premier League games without a goal

10. Spezia Calcio

Thiago Motta’s men are not even in the relegation zone in Serie A yet the lack of points from the club’s below them has propelled them to tenth spot.

Spezia have 12 points after 17 games this season – the same amount and number as Getafe but with a vastly inferior goal difference boasting an unwanted -21 this term!

9. Saint-Etienne

Claude Puel’s former Ligue 1 team also have the same number of points as Italian outfit Spezia and Spanish side Getafe with all three clubs rooted on 12 this season.

However, Pascal Dupraz’s new side, who are bottom of their domestic table, have played 18 games – one more than the other two – and take the ninth spot.

8. Burnley

Sean Dyche’s side find themselves rather harshly squeezing into this list having played fewer games than the rest of their unwanted rivals.

But the fact remains that the Clarets have only managed to pick up 11 points after 15 games – with only one win all season.

Eddie Howe faces a big task to turn around Newcastle’s fortunes

7. Newcastle

The Toon find themselves one point below Burnley in the Premier League table and one spot below the Turf Moor outfit in this list as well.

Eddie Howe’s side are only ahead of bottom club Norwich on goal difference, having only managed 10 points from 16 games including only one win.

6. Genoa

Andriy Shevchenko’s side are only ahead of Cagliari on goal difference with the two teams boasting identical records in Serie A this season.

Both teams have managed 10 points from their 17 games, including one win, seven draws and nine defeats.

5. Cagliari

Walter Mazzarri’s men handed Genoa their only Seria A victory of the season back in September and are now narrowly below them in the relegation zone.

Cagliari and Genoa have both conceded 34 top-flight goals during their poor start to the campaign, but the latter have scored just one more to keep them above.

4. Norwich

The Canaries have slipped below the two Italian teams following their damaging 2-0 home defeat to Aston Villa on Tuesday.

The result meant Dean Smith’s side remained level with Cagliari and Genoa on 10 points, but their -26 goal difference has proved costly even though Norwich have won more games this season.

3. Levante

The Frogs are rooted to the bottom of LaLiga with only eight points after 17 games – leaving them 34 behind leaders Real Madrid!

Levante are also the only team in Europe’s top five leagues not to have won a single league game all season with eight draws and nine defeats.

2. Salernitana

Salernitana only returned to Italy’s top division this year after a 23-year absence but it has been a rough season so far with only eight points from 17 games.

The club sacked Fabrizio Castori back in October following a string of poor results and although they have tasted victory twice this season, 13 defeats has left them bottom in Serie A with a -26 goal difference.

1. Greuther Furth

And finally sitting bottom of the table with only four points after 15 games is the club Liverpool’s Karius looks primed to be joining.

The Cloverleaves are also back in their respective countries top-division after a long absence this year but they are rock bottom of the Bundesliga.

Yet the tide could begin to turn with Furth earning their first win of the season with a narrow 1-0 victory over Union Berlin last time out.
