England continue their Euro 2020 campaign with an Auld Enemy clash against Scotland on Friday.
It is the oldest international fixture in the world, first played in 1872 at Hamilton Crescent, Glasgow – and you can follow all the action live on talkSPORT and talkSPORT 2.
While there are 40 places between England and Scotland in the FIFA world rankings, the derby-like feel is likely to somewhat even the odds.
Marcus Rashford, who came off the bench for England’s opening 1-0 victory over Croatia, compared the clash to to some of the biggest club rivalries he has played in.
“I think in football everyone wants to be beat everyone,” said the Manchester United ace.
“But in some games… its how the game is actually being played and the atmosphere and crowd and how much you want to win – it all comes together.
“There is something unique about that game. It’s similar to the games against Man City and Liverpool – those type of games you have a different feeling.
“You can’t put a finger on it – because you approach every game the same. But the build up, its just unique and I’m really looking forward to it.”
Scotland are in desperate need of a result after they slipped to a 2-0 defeat to Czech Republic in their Euro 2020 opener.
But how could both clashes line-up for the clash? talkSPORT.com has the verdict…
England team news
After the Three Lions impressed against Croatia in their opener, it’s unlikely Southgate will make too many changes for the Scotland clash.
Dean Henderson was forced to withdraw from the England squad due to a hip problem, with Aaron Ramsdale his replacement, but there are no other fresh concerns from the win over Croatia.
Harry Maguire declared himself fit for the match having recovered from an ankle injury, but it’s not likely he’ll be rushed back into the fold after nearly six weeks out. Therefore Mings may well partner John Stones in defence again.
Kieran Trippier’s ability from set pieces saw him start against Croatia at left-back, but it’s understood Southgate is set to mix it up in his defensive line with Luke Shaw in at left-back and Reece James at right-back.
Meanwhile, Jordan Henderson is still working his way back from a groin problem and is not expected to be in the first XI.
Jack Grealish trained alone on Tuesday due to a reported shin issue, but it isn’t believed to be serious and expected to be in the squad against Scotland.
A starting spot is unlikely, however, with Sterling and Phil Foden most likely joining Harry Kane in attack once more, and Mason Mount set to keep his place in midfield, along with Declan Rice and the impressive Kalvin Phillips.
Scotland team news
As for the Tartan Army, Kieran Tierney is set to return to the fold, with his return from injury a big boost to Steve Clarke’s side.
The Arsenal defender, who said he was ‘gutted’ to miss out on the opener, was a huge miss against the Czech Republic having been ruled out with a calf problem.
Now fit, it’s expected he will slot straight into the team at right-back, with Clarke saying he ‘will be available for the whole game’.
Southampton’s Che Adams may come in for a start in the final third of the field, with Clarke expected to make changes following the disappointing opening result.
Stuart Armstrong should again feature alongside Scott McTominay and John McGinn in midfield, with the Villa star named the danger man for the Scots by club teammate Jack Grealish.
He told talkSPORT: “Scotland are a good team. John McGinn is a player on the Scotland team we need to watch out for, he’s so talented.
“But so many of their players are. Tierney is one of Arsenal’s best players, Robertson is one of Liverpool’s best players, there’s John McGinn, Scott McTominay, Billy Gilmour, Stuart Armstrong had a good season in the Premier League for Southampton and so did Che Adams.
“So there’s seven players I’ve mentioned who are playing Premier League football week in week out, they have so much threat.
“I actually said to Ginny [Villa teammate McGinn] that they’re going to do something similar to Wales did in 2016, I think they’ve got that much of a talented squad.”
