Jon Jones had a very simple message for new heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou after watching him knock out Stipe Miocic at UFC 260.
‘The Predator’ wrenched the belt from Miocic with a stunning second-round finish at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas in a composed and measured performance.
Having been dominated in their first fight at UFC 220 in 2018, Ngannou made significant improvements to his cardio and wrestling skills and it became clear.
After stuffing a takedown attempt in the first round, the Cameroonian then dropped his man twice and left him reeling with two brutal left hand shots.
With Jones vacating his light-heavyweight title to move up to heavyweight, it now presents a delectable opportunity to pit the greatest fighter in UFC history against the most dangerous puncher the sport has ever seen.
Taking to Twitter, Jones simply wrote: “Show me the money.”
Former UFC lightweight champion Khabib was slightly more effusive in his praise, saying: “Congratulations Africa. Now you have thee UFC champions.”
With welterweight champion Kamaru Usman in Ngannou’s corner, Israel Adesanya wasted no time in sending his message of support from home.
He wrote: “F*** I’m inspired! We’re taking gold back to Africa!!”
Ngannou earned himself a $50,000 bonus for his ‘Performance of the Night’, with a chance to enjoy the spoils of victory before a summer time showdown with Jonny ‘Bones’ Jones.
And he’s ready for that next challenge.
“For my opinion, Jon Jones is the greatest of all time from mixed martial arts,” Ngannou said in the aftermath of his win.
“Him moving up is going to be a good thing. He’s going to be a challenge that I will take and I will put it on record. It will be a very good thing on my resume.
“But this time he is gonna be the challenger, I am the champ. I am ready. Any time soon. Whenever they are ready, I am ready.”
