After playing 19 seasons in the NBA, Jason Terry got a job as an assistant general manager for the Dallas Mavericks’ G-League affiliate, the Texas Legends. Now, having served as an assistant coach for his alma mater Arizona last season, “The Jet” is returning to the G-League as a coach.
The Denver Nuggets hired Terry as the head coach of their new G-League affiliate, the Grand Rapids Gold according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Terry will take over as head coach of Grand Rapids after spending a full year as an assistant at his alma mater. Terry wanted to get on a path to becoming a head coach after an NBA career that included a championship with Mavs in 2011 and an NBA sixth-man of year award in 2009.

Terry was also rumored to join the Dallas Mavericks’ coaching staff this summer. He elaborated on his coaching plans during a June 21 radio interview on The Zach Gelb Show on CBS Sports.
“Don’t rule out me being on a bench here in the NBA. I also have aspired to give my 19 years of experience and knowledge to these young guys (at Arizona) and mentor these guys and show them the way. We’ll see what the cards hold but I’m enjoying my time at Arizona under the leadership of Tommy Lloyd and back at my alma mater, so I’m having fun doing what I do.”
Jason Terry’s won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year award in ’09 and won a championship with the Dallas Mavericks in 2011. He also played for the Atlanta Hawks, Boston Celtics, Brooklyn Nets, Houston Rockets and Milwaukee Bucks where he finished his career after the 2017-18 season.
The Grand Rapids will be changing its name from “Drive” to “Gold” and the team colors to a dark blue and yellow with their switch in NBA affiliation to the Denver Nuggets
