Jackson State has started the season 3-0 behind new head coach Deion Sanders after their beatdown of MVSU last week, 43-7. They’ll travel to Alabama State who lost their first game of the season, 24-21 to Southern. Let’s see their NCAAF odds.
Jackson State Tigers vs. Alabama State Hornets
Saturday, March 20, 2021 – 4:00 PM EST at ASU Football Stadium
Jackson State is led by Jalen Jones who has thrown for 593 yards and nine touchdowns on the season. This team has thrown for 735 yards in total and also has 629 yards on the ground totaling 1364 yards in just three games.
The Tigers are now averaging 43 points per game and 454.7 yards per game and have 17 touchdowns through three games this season.
Tyson Alexander has led the team in rushing yards so far this season with 263 yards, averaging 7.3 yards per rush and as one touchdown. Jones has scored the most touchdowns on the ground this season with three. Therefore, he totaled 12 touchdowns in three games passing and rushing.
When he’s passing, his favorite target is Daylen Baldwin who has 14 receptions for 281 yards along with five touchdowns. He’s averaging 20.1 yards per reception this season and is making big play after big play in his first season with Jackson State.
On defense, Jackson State has allowed 796 yards in three games with just 447 yards passing and 349 yards on the ground on the season. Teams are scoring just 11.7 points per game and average just 265.3 yards per game.
While they’ve scored 17 touchdowns, Jackson State has limited their opponents to five touchdowns and no field goals this season.
Alabama State, on the other hand, has played just one game. The offense couldn’t achieve 300 yards and they scored just 21 points in their 24-21 loss to Southern.
Ryan Nettles will get the start after throwing two touchdowns on 16 completions for Alabama State in his first start of his career. He was sacked six times for a loss of 37 yards, which is quite concerning to say the least. He had 16 completions on 27 attempts and was sacked six times. His completions were short yardage gains, averaging just 5.5 yards per catch in the first game.
Defensively, they were also able to hold Southern to 274 yards and limited Southern to just 135 yards passing. However, they did allow 139 yards on the ground behind graduate senior Ezra Gray who had 14 rushes for 73 yards.
Prediction
I’ll go back to Jackson State here for my best bets. They’re 3-0 and have more games under their belt. Jackson State is now ranked in the Top 25 and still has room for improvement.
I’d expect Jackson State to enjoy a solid game on the ground and the defensive line should be able to get plenty of pressure on Alabama State’s offense.
