We always like when we have more choices for our NBA picks on a Thursday and we have five today, which provides us some options. Let’s try and take advantage of this with some upset calls.
Let’s face it, professional basketball is never simple or comfortable for the matter. For the most part, oddsmakers at online betting sites are correct. You start following the side or a total of an NBA game and see a first quarter or halftime score and you – man, the linemaker really blew that one! Yet, when you go back and look at the final score, more often than you would care to admit, they are usually within one to three points off listed numbers.
That’s what makes backing underdogs so intriguing against the NBA odds, in most, if not all, you feel like you have a chance to cash, because the lines are generally accurate. That’s our mission for tonight so let’s have at it!
Utah Jazz vs. Atlanta Hawks
Thursday, February 04, 2021 – 07:30 PM EST at State Farm Arena
Talk about playing some sweet music, that is what the Jazz are doing for backers at online sportsbooks. Utah’s on a 12-1 and 11-2 ATS run and the only loss was going into a bad scheduling situation at Denver. Otherwise, the Jazz have beaten 11 of the 13 teams they faced by 10 or more points since January 8.
Atlanta would appear to be at a disadvantage, having played last night at home against Dallas and this would be their third contest in four days. However, the Hawks are primarily a young team, and with that youth comes the competitive juices of wanting to play the best and beat the best. That is where Atlanta can draw energy from and coach Lloyd Pierce and his staff have to sell it.
The Hawks are a yo-yo defensive club, so you never know what to expect. Nonetheless, point guard, Trae Young has to set the right tone of offense and be a scorer and facilitator. On defense, center Clint Capela has to rule the paint and clean the glass and guard Cam Reddish has to use his length and size to contain Utah’s three-point shooters.
It’s noteworthy Atlanta is 17-7 ATS in home games when playing against a team with a winning record.

Houston Rockets vs. Memphis Grizzlies
Thursday, February 04, 2021 - 09:00 PM EST at Fedex Forum
Though their overall record doesn’t suggest it, these Southwest Division rivals are two of the hottest clubs in the Association. Houston misses James Harden about as much as most people’s in-laws and has sky-rocketed on a 6-1 (5-2 ATS) move. Memphis just had their seven-game winning streak snapped at Indiana, which was not a shocker, being their third road skirmish in four days.
The Grizzlies are single-digit favorites and that could change up to game time Thursday. Memphis had won five in a row, had to shut it down with virus concerns, but never missed a beat after 12 days in sweeping San Antonio on the road. What changed for the Grizz was continual, not spotty defensive effort and their shot selection really improved and the return of Ja Morant had much to do with that.
Yet, the Rockets are a different team and Victor Oladipo has been a perfect fit. Oladipo is a good scorer, a willing passer and enjoys playing defense which has become contagious. In an even matchup by the odds at betting websites, let’s side with the more veteran club.

Denver Rockets vs. Los Angeles Lakers
Thursday, February 04, 2021 - 10:00 PM EST at Staples Center
This is a late battle on TNT and both should be primed for a strong effort. Denver has not played since Sunday when they stopped Utah’s 11-game win streak with a barrage of three’s in the first half. The Nuggets were supposed to play Tuesday, and we don’t have to explain why they didn’t because, you know.
The defending champs returned home off a 5-2 SU road trip and often those first game's back are treacherous for the home team. Since the Lakers last outing was Monday, that’s enough time to chill and get ready to play.
No question the Lakers are exceptional, yet, the Nuggets are on a tasty 6-1 SU and ATS rollout. Nikola Jokic has played wonderfully all season and Jamal Murray is turning into a superior all-around point guard, at or above career norms this season. Forward Michael Porter will probably never play more than 65 regular season contests, being injury-prone, but when he plays with his still emerging confidence, he’s a game-changer.
For NBA picks, a little Lee Corso action and say Denver keeps it close, real close.
