Conor McGregor laughs at money made by Floyd Mayweather for bet on Dustin Poirier fight, thanks UFC legend Ronda Rousey for support

Not many people would be in the mood for a laugh after breaking their leg but Conor McGregor managed a chuckle at Floyd Mayweather’s expense.

The Notorious may have lost his trilogy match with Dustin Poirier due to a horrific freak injury, but he couldn’t help but mock his former, whom he lost to in a lucrative boxing match in 2017.

The 50-0 retired boxer posted a winning bet slip from the McGregor and Poirier fight at UFC 264. Naturally, he backed The Diamond.

Mayweather laid down $50,000 (£36k) to win around $35,000 (£25k) and McGregor thought it was a pretty paltry pay-out.

Then again, he is one of the few people who can actually turn his nose up at that sum of money. The Irishman was named the highest earning sports star in the world by Forbes this year.

Mayweather and McGregor have previously discussed facing each other again. Their first bout was the second-most bought fight of all-time, only behind Mayweather’s showdown with Manny Pacquiao.

While McGregor was meant to face Pacquiao this year, but following his loss to Poirier back at UFC 257, The Notorious admitted to talkSPORT that the loss had set his plans back.

Now that he has a broken leg as a result of the rematch with Poirier, that dream seems further away than ever.

It’s not all been bickering though, McGregor has also received support from legendary fighter Ronda Rousey after the bout.

She reached out to the UFC box office sensation on Twitter and praised his value to the fight game.

“I’m amazed that as soon as you hit the ground you were already promoting the next fight @TheNotoriousMMA – I def wouldn’t have had the mind to do that. The other fighters, @ufc and media are lucky to have you.”

Rousey, a UFC Hall of Famer and arguably the most influential female to ever step into an octagon, is referencing the interview McGregor did while laying in the octagon with a broken tibia.

McGregor replied to Rousey, saying: “Thank you for the message Ronda! I appreciate it greatly.”

Rousey is currently expecting her first child in September and she hasn’t been with the UFC since losing to Amanda Nunes back at UFC 207 back in late 2016.

She then moved on to WWE and had a very successful debut year before taking a break.
