You wanted madness? You got madness yesterday! The headline upset of the day came to us in the South Region, as the 2nd ranked Ohio State Buckeyes lost to 15th seeded Oral Roberts. The struggle for the Big 10 continued later into the day as well, as the 4th seeded Purdue Boilermakers saw their season come to a premature ending when they got knocked off by 13th seeded North Texas. The win was the first-ever in program history for the Mean Green.

In the late-night action, the Oregon State Beavers also found a way to win their first-ever NCAA tournament game when they defeated the Tennessee Volunteers, a game that we gave you yesterday in our parlay of the day picks. Other upsets on day one of the madness included Syracuse blowing out San Diego State, Wisconsin beating North Carolina, and Rutgers beating Clemson. All told, we saw 5 double digits seeds win and advance in what was a wild day of college hoops action. We get back on the grind today looking for value for your parlay of the day picks!
Point Spread Parlay
Not all parlays are the same. In this first section, we are going to focus on point spread parlays. A point spread parlay is a parlay bet where all of the games bet are point spreads, and you will have to lay a little juice on each bet. A standard 3-team point spread parlay will payout 6-1, a 4-teamer pays out 11-1, and a 10-teamer pays out a whopping 720-1! As you can see, the payouts can get really big, really fast, on point spread parlays!
Texas Southern Tigers (+26) at Michigan Wolverines
The Michigan Wolverines are trying to adapt to life without their 2nd leading scorer, Isiah Livers, on the floor. Livers went down late in the season with an injury, and the impact of him not being available has been felt immediately for Big Blue. The Wolverines are 0-1 without Livers, and to be completely honest, the Wolverines were struggling late in the season even when Livers was healthy, as they are just 2-3 in their last 5 games. The Wolverine’s dominance early in the season was still impressive enough to earn them a 1-seed, and they draw the SWAC conference tournament champions Texas Southern Tigers in round one.
Texas Forever 🔥#MarchMadness pic.twitter.com/NLRF46Xn6T
— NCAA March Madness (@marchmadness) March 20, 2021
Texas Southern has had a very strange season as they lost 7 of their first 9 games of the year before catching fire in the second half of the season and winning 15 of 16, including a win in their first four game on Thursday over Mount St. Mary’s. 26 points is an awful lot of points to give a team in the NCAA tournament, and I am going to snatch them up and back the Tigers. Even early in the year, when Texas Southern wasn’t playing well, they were staying competitive with good teams. Their losses to Washington State, BYU, Saint Mary’s, Auburn, and Oklahoma State all came by fewer than 26-points, and I think they keep this one somewhat competitive and cover. Michigan hasn’t won a single game this year by that many points, and I can’t imagine they are going to start now without one of their best players on the floor.
UC Santa Barbara Gauchos at Creighton Blue Jays (-7)
UC Santa Barbara has been a sexy upset pick by a lot of people this morning. We always see a lot of upsets in these 12/5 matchups, and the public seems to think we are going to see another one here in this game, but I couldn’t disagree more. This line opened with Creighton laying -10-points, which certainly felt a bit high, but with all of the public action coming in on the Gauchos, the Blue Jays are now only 7-point favorites, and that opens up a lot of value for a play on Creighton. The Blue Jays haven’t lost to a team ranked outside of the top-60 on Kenpom since January, and I feel like the hype on UC Santa Barbra is way overblown right now.

The public was right to grab the points when the line opened, but now that they have moved it so far towards the Gauchos, I will make my standard fade the public play and back Creighton. UC Santa Barbara hasn’t even played a game against a top-100 team this season, and they are going to be in for a rude awakening against a Creighton team that has played almost exclusively against solid competition this year. The public is going to win us this bet as Creighton wins by just enough to cover this reduced spread.
Maryland Terrapins (+3.5) at UCONN Huskies
Many people are pointing to Ohio State and Purdue losing to try and prove that the Big 10 was overrated coming into this tournament. And while that certainly has some merit, we also saw Wisconsin blow out North Carolina as underdogs, Illinois toy with Drexel, blowing out the Dragons by 29-points, and Rutgers win as dogs against Clemson. All and all, I would say it wasn’t that bad of a day for the Big 10. I expect that the Big 10 will continue to have success in this tournament, and we are going to see several teams still dancing from the league when this weekend is over. I will leverage the overall strength of the Big 10 in this bet and back the Maryland Terrapins, getting more than a full possession’s worth of points against a UCONN team that I have felt is overrated all season long.
Built for this.

Looking at UCONN’s record, it shows you just how down the Big East was this season. The Huskies have 12 wins this season against Big East foes, and only 2 of them came against teams playing in the NCAA tournament, and both of those came against a Georgetown team that wouldn’t have made the tournament if they hadn’t pulled off a miracle in the conference tournament. The Huskies managed to not even play Villanova, and in their 3 games with Creighton, they lost them all. I know it is easy to hate on the Big 10 right now, but I’ll take a middle of the pack Big 10 team over a middle of the pack Big East team any time. Maryland covers this spread, and they just might win the game outright as well.
Grand Canyon Antelopes at Iowa Hawkeyes (-14)
I go back to the Big 10 for my next pick, as the Iowa Hawkeyes play the Grand Canyon Antelopes, winners of the WAC conference tournament. Iowa is one of the top-scoring teams in the nation, and they can threaten to drop triple digits on any given night. The Hawkeyes had won 8 of 9 before losing to a red-hot Illinois team in the Big 10 tournament, and I think the Hawkeyes have a real shot at making it all of the way to the Final Four. When Iowa has played against teams outside of the top-100, they have really run up the scores.
The wait is over. 🤘
It’s a @marchmadness GAMEDAY‼️ #LopesUp pic.twitter.com/ksPYrwjQbt
— Grand Canyon Men’s Basketball (@GCU_MBB) March 20, 2021
Iowa beat North Carolina Central by 30, Southern by 27, Iowa State by 28, and Northern Illinois by 53. Even against solid teams in league play, the Hawkeyes have shown the ability to blow teams out. Iowa has league wins over Maryland by 22, Northwestern by 23, Michigan State by 30, Nebraska by 38, and they had 15-point wins over Purdue, Northwestern, and Minnesota. I know we are all rooting for more madness today, but it’s not coming in this game, as Grand Canyon has losses to teams like Utah Valley, Cal Baptist, Seattle, and San Francisco. The Hawkeyes blow this one out and coast to a cover.
Abilene Christian Wildcats (+9) at Texas Longhorns
Do not sleep on Abilene Christian. I repeat, do not sleep on Abilene Christian! The Wildcats got a tough draw against a Texas Longhorns team that is playing well right now, but this team can absolutely play ball. The Wildcats cruised through the Southland, winning the regular season title and the conference tournament title, and they hit the Big Dance, having won 16 of 18 games. We saw yesterday that teams that get hot late can surprise you with so many double digit seeds winning games, and I think Texas will be on upset alert tonight.

The Longhorns must hate having to play a team like Abilene Christian as a 3-seed, as the Wildcats are 85th on Kenpom, and should probably be seeded a line or two higher. Texas righted the ship in Big 12 play after struggling early in the year, and they are riding a 5-game winning streak, having just won the Big 12 conference tournament. Texas caught a couple of breaks in that tournament, though, as Kansas had to pull out of the semifinals, giving the Longhorns a free pass to the finals, and OK State knocked out Baylor on their side of the bracket, allowing Texas to dodge both elite squads. They did a great job of taking care of business against the Cowboys, but it was a spot where Oklahoma State had to play 3 games in 3 days, and they were clearly out of gas. Expect a tightly contested game, and don’t be shocked if Abilene Christian is your next big bracket buster!

Want to load up on a bunch of favorites and get paid when they all win? Do you smell a couple of big upsets? Parlay those together on a money line parlay, and you can get paid big!
Ohio Bobcats at Virginia Cavaliers (-315)
For some reason, a lot of people are picking Ohio to win this game. I guess it’s still the somewhat recent memory of Virginia losing as a 1-seed to UMBC a couple of years ago that makes people think the Cavs are going to blow it again? Virginia is somewhat vulnerable in this one, as they saw their season get cut short due to a positive COVID-19 test inside of the program, but the Cavs were the top seed in the ACC tournament and had they won the league tournament title like they would have been favored to do had they not been shut down, I don’t think we would be seeing nearly as many people doubting them in this game.

Ohio finished in 5th place in the MAC this year, a conference that was a 1-bid league. They are playing well at the moment, though, and they have lots of momentum, having won 9 of 10, but Virginia is a whole other animal. Many people are pointing to Ohio’s game at Illinois earlier this year when they nearly knocked off the Illini on the road as to why they are going to beat Virginia in this game. But it is easy to cherry pick results that play in your favor to make a team look better than they are. I’ll cherry pick results in the opposite direction and remind you that the Bobcats have double digit losses to Buffalo, Kent State, Akron, and Marshall. The Hoos win this one and it’s probably not going to be all that competitive.
Missouri Tigers at Oklahoma Sooners (-112)
I love me some Lon Kruger. Kruger has taken teams to the NCAA tournaments a whopping 15 times and he is no stranger to winning meaningful games in March. The Sooners aren’t playing well right now, as they finished the regular season losing their last 4 games, but they do have wins on their resume over teams like West Virginia, Texas, Alabama, and Kansas, so if Kruger can get them back to how they were playing earlier this season, the Sooners could be a dark horse Final Four team.
Let the madness begin.

The same can be said about Missouri, as they have had a nearly identical season as Oklahoma. The Tigers have signature wins over Illinois, Arkansas, Oregon, Tennessee, Alabama, and Florida, but they hit the skids late in the year, losing 6 of their last 9 games of the year. The Tigers have a high ceiling but a low floor, as they have bad losses to Ole Miss, Georgia, Mississippi State, and Auburn, and I think they are going to struggle in this game. Missouri had a March win over Florida that was solid, but besides that, the Tigers haven’t beaten a team playing in the NCAA tournament since they beat Alabama way back on February 6th. I like the Sooners to sneak out of this game with a win, and Gonzaga better watch out in the next round, as the Sooners have shown the ability to beat elite teams this year.
VCU Rams at Oregon Ducks (-215)
The PAC-12 isn’t getting a lot of love right now, but I have been screaming all season long that the league is better than they are getting credit for. UCLA won their first four game over Michigan State earlier in the week, and Oregon State shocked Tennessee as a 12-seed last night, giving the PAC-12 an undefeated 2-0 record so far in the tournament. I think Oregon is a really good team, as they have dominated the PAC-12 the entire way out, winning the regular season title, before running into the buzz saw that has been Oregon State in the last two weeks and losing to the Beavers in the PAC-12 tournament.

The Ducks had won 11 of 12 before losing to Oregon State, and my opinion that the PAC-12 is criminally underrated right now says that is mighty impressive. The Ducks draw VCU in the first round against a Rams team that is lucky to be dancing. VCU was one of the last teams to get into the tournament as an at-large bid, and their late season struggles with a 3-3 record in their last 6 games almost ruined their season. The Rams are a nice team, but against teams ranked in the top-25 on Kenpom, they are just 1-3. This is a tough spot for VCU against an under-seeded Oregon team, and I see the Ducks winning and advancing.

Do you want a chance at jumbo payouts? The best way to stack the cash fast is by parlaying underdogs! You can back these teams getting the points, but the best way to get a huge return on your money is to take these teams on the money line!
Drake Bulldogs (+235) at USC Trojans
I think the Drake Bulldogs are a special basketball team. They have mowed through their schedule, and they were elite against the spread all season long, at one point covering their first 18 games of the year. Drake has a win over Loyola Chicago on their resume, and we saw just how great of a win that was yesterday when the Ramblers easily dispatched the ACC tournament champion Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. I only bring up the fact that the Bulldogs have been elite against the spread to point out the fact that the public and the books have been consistently disrespecting the Bulldogs all season long. To see them as heavy underdogs against a USC team that has not played well in the last month is more shade from the betting markets.

USC is just 4-4 in their last 8 games, including losses to Utah and Arizona, teams that aren’t playing in the NCAA tournament. I know I just talked about how I feel that the PAC-12 is underrated, but this is a coin flip game at best. Drake showed a lot of heart in their first four win over Wichita State earlier this week, making a furious comeback to shock the Shockers. That game showed me that the Bulldogs can still beat quality teams even when they aren’t at their best. They will need to play better tonight to knock off USC, but at this price, a play on the Bulldogs shows outrageous value in a game that could go either way.
UCLA Bruins (+155) at BYU Cougars
I took a slight detour from my PAC-12 lovefest when I just bet against USC, but I will get right back to showing love to the west coast, as I expect UCLA to upset BYU. BYU is a nice team. The Cougars have won a lot of games, and they stayed competitive with Gonzaga twice this year, something that not many teams have been able to do. But the resume is shockingly light for the 6th seeded Cougars. BYU is just 6-5 vs. the top-100, and their best wins of the season came against Utah State and San Diego State, two teams that I faded yesterday, that both lost, as I felt that the MWC was the most overrated league in the nation entering the tournament.
Yeah, IT’S GAMEDAY!

I am very surprised that BYU is favored over UCLA, even though I admit that the Bruins haven’t played well recently. The Bruins lost their last 4-games of the regular season, but looking back on those losses, two of them came on the road at Colorado and Oregon, and all of them came to teams playing in the NCAA tournament. It was a rough patch of schedule, and the Bruins didn’t handle it overly well. They got things turned around against Michigan State, coming back late to upset the Spartans, and I think they ride that momentum to another win tonight over an overseeded BYU team.
