Flyers captain Claude Giroux, who recently played in his 900th career National Hockey League game, will be unavailable for the near term after being placed on the League’s COVID Protocol list:

There is never a good time for this, but the news is especially disappointing for Flyers fans as Giroux has 11 points in 13 games for a team off to a surprisingly hot start (8-3-2). The obvious concern here is that the virus is so fast-moving and communicable that once it shows up in NHL locker rooms, it tends to cause real problems quickly:

As of this writing, the Flyers are on pause. Soon enough we will know whether the club’s COVID issues are isolated or more widespread.
