Betting Odds and Predictions on 4 Potential Fights for Dustin Poirier

Who is sick of hearing about Conor McGregor?

Nobody? Okay, well I promise we will be discussing Mystic Mac today, our focus for once will be on the man who recently defeated the Irishman, Dustin The Diamond Poirier. The Louisiana native and now hot sauce mogul is in the driver’s seat in the UFC’s Lightweight Division.

He reportedly has his choice of opponents to fight next, as well as the stipulation that the bout could be for the belt. From the info that we are gathering, he can either take a title fight or a money fight.

He recently posted on Instagram that he and Conor would be doing it again for the third time. Both fights were clear early stoppage victories, and the tie must be broken. Does this mean he will fight Conor next, though, or possibly “after” he has won the belt.

Money fight or fight for the world title?

Dustin appears to have some choices to make. For his wallet, I think he should fight Conor McGregor again as soon as possible. DP is already a multi-millionaire, especially after this last fight, but he comes from humble beginnings, and you know he would love nothing more than to secure his grandkids’ grandkids futures with one night of fighting a cocky Irishman that quits easily.

Did I say that out loud?

I really shouldn’t because he is the man in the theater, but it’s my job, and you can’t help but notice how quickly he goes out.

When Conor begins to fade…and the fights over. Just like that. Against Nate, against Floyd Mayweather, and now against Dustin Poirier, Conor McGregor is the embodiment of the dying of the light.

There is no rage, rage against anything. That guy is done. And I understand being a good loser and all, but he sure does smile a lot in defeat, and Conor is always so fast to properly diagnose his mistakes in defeat.

I am a huge fan, but I am also starting to just call him for what he is. He is super skillful but has never really shown a ton of heart inside of the Octagon, and as he approaches his first billion dollars, I don’t know how he is all of a sudden going to find this hungry pit bull inside of him.

I could be wrong, but we will see. More than anything, though, the man needs time inside the Octagon. Could he get it against Dustin Poirier next? Maybe the two men fight one more time and go longer than just the first few minutes.

I hope so because this is a matchup for the ages and I want to see more than just one man dominating the other.

BetOnine.AG has betting odds on 4 potential opponents for Dustin Poirier. These aren’t odds for us to try and guess who he will fight next. I would put my money on the money fight, and that is Conor, but these are actual odds on a fight with Conor as well as 3 other top UFC Lightweights.

Let’s look at each fight and give our own betting odds and, from there, determine if there is any current value on the betting line for a smart play.

Khabib Nurmagomedov (-500) vs Dustin Poirier (+385)

Well, that’s no fun!

Go home, Khabib! You’re making the UFC’s most exciting division its most predictable. If you stick around or come back or whatever they want to call it, then you will just beat everyone.

Khabib Choking Justin

I do agree that Charles Oliveira is at least an interesting stylistic matchup for Nurmagomedov, but it doesn’t appear that we will see that fight anytime soon.

I like how Khabib ignored the fact that Chandler got an incredible KO, and according to the oddsmakers, Dustin Porier did the same thing. Khabib was like, “eh, nothing special.”

He hasn’t even mentioned Charles Oliveira either. Honestly, Justin Gaethje is not that big. He is not thick at all and mostly built like a striker. Dustin and Conor are former Featherweights. So, Khabib has defeated 3 consecutive smaller opponents and then complains that there is no challenge to come back.

Go up to 170! Hey, I think he CAN do it. I think Khabib at 170 pounds could be better than 155 Khabib, who has to nearly kill himself to make the weight. I have heard he walks around north of 190.

I know Gray Maynard used to do that at 155. It is nuts, but you do get to play the bully if you can pull it off. I would love to see Khabib move up, and from the looks of George St Pierre’s Instagram, we may be seeing a super fight of all super fights sometime soon.

GSP Instagram Posts

So, he’s out training in the snow simply for the Gram? He grew that awful patch of hair out solely for social media?!

No! GSP is coming back to get smoked by Khabib! I’m calling it now!

We are supposed to be predicting Dustin Poirier vs Khabib 2? Yea, I’ve got the Russian here. Nurmagomedov by submission once again. Father’s plan!

Dustin Poirier (-150) vs Charles Oliviera (+130)

Enough about Khabib! Today is Dustin’s day, dog’on it. BetOnline.AG has him as a 60/40 betting favorite over the Brazilian submission artist.

I think that is a fair betting line.

It is going to be hard to bet DP at a number any higher than this, though.

Outside of his loss against Michael Johnson, DP has just one defeat on his record after moving up to the UFC”s Lightweight Division, and that was, of course, to the previously mentioned Khabibby.

Like Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier, Charles Oliviera is another reformed Featherweight. Charles made his debut with the UFC at 55, actually, and later moved down and then back up again.

Dustin Poirier Vs Charles Oliviera Armbar Ferguson

Oliveira does have some losses on his record, but that is because he grew up inside of the Octagon. He was 20 when he got his first fight with the promotion, and since he has moved back up to 155, Charles Oliviera has looked amazing, only losing to Paul Felder, who has fought at 170.

Charlie Olives has been known to be a bit of a flake or a quitter in there, and that isn’t something that you can train out of yourself. You either have the grit that, say a Dustin Poirier does, or you have about as much as Conor McGregor.

I suppose Charles falls in the middle somewhere, but I would be willing to bet that his data point lays closer to Conor’s than DP’s. I think in a striking battle, Dustin has the chin to withstand a lot of Charles’ strikes, and I believe The Diamond’s pressure will eventually wilt the wily Brazilian.

Dustin can be dropped and finished. We know this. Michael Johnson and Conor McGregor have been able to do it. They are both long strikers whose shots sting on the end. That is how Charles likes to fight but I love the diversity from Oliveira more than the other two.

One of his biggest advantages against Dustin Poirier will be that he doesn’t have to worry about the takedown attempt from DP. He can then open up with his strikes and use all 8 of his limbs. It is going to be hard, though, when Poirier is in his face and we have seen Oliveira check out early in the past.

It’s been a while but we have certainly seen him quit before. Once a quitter, always a quitter. As bettors, we have to call it like it is, no matter how disrespectful on a martial arts level as it may seem.

Now, if Charles gets offensive with a strategy to get the fight to the mat, then Dustin could be in a lot of trouble. You don’t have the option right now, but I would bet the under for this fight. It will certainly be a 5 rounder, so anything under 3.5 is a good bet, in my opinion.

Oli is a finisher, and that is the only way he knows how to fight. Dustin may go about it in another way, but he is no different in that he will fight to finish before anything else.

If they do make this fight next, I would wait until more money comes in on Dustin Poirier until Charles is a (+150) or more favorite and then bet him.

Dustin Poirier (-200) vs Michael Chandler (+170)

Usually, when you see a fighter as a 2 to 1 favorite, the underdog comes in at (+150). Not here. The sportsbooks are trying to bait a bet on Michael Chandler and they might want to be careful what they wish for.

It isn’t likely we are going to get to see this fight happen soon anyways considering Dustin Poirier came out and said if Michael Chandler and he are fighting for the world title next then he would just retire and be a hot sauce salesman.

DP obviously feels rather slighted by the new deputy in town who is rumored to be jumping the line for the next world title shot.

After Michael’s knockout of Dan Hooker at UFC 257, it was easy to think that hey, maybe this guy should be next. Then, Dustin Poirier came out there and did something to Conor McGregor that nobody has ever been able to do, he put him away with strikes in an MMA fight.

Let’s just play pretend for one second that this is the fight that is made and Dustin accepts the opportunity to smash his South Florida rival for a UFC world title belt.

Should DP be a 2 to 1 favorite?

He was out struck by Dan Hooker for the first couple of rounds and needed wrestling to seal the deal late in the fight. I don’t think Poirier will be able to wrestle the All American Chandler like he did the Kiwi kickboxer, Hooker.

That makes this a striking match and I give Michael Chandler the edge in speed and power. Dustin will have a considerable reach advantage of 4 inches but he isn’t that much taller, only an inch in height separates the two stocky superstars.

Please Note:
Even with Dustin all the way up at (-200), I think his popularity will take him close to (-250), and thus bringing Iron Michael up to a 2 to 1 underdog, and from there, I think you have to make a play on the Henri Hooft trained Chandler.

Dustin Poirier (-105) vs Conor McGreogr (-115)

I looked at this betting line just a couple of days ago and Conor had opened at (-140). It appears that some smart money has come in on The Diamond and nearly evened this ting up. The books still think that the Irishman will catch him but you have to think that is probably his only route to victory.

Conor doesn’t exactly have a list of submission wins to his credit nor does he win many fights on the judges’ scorecards.

Heck, he barely makes it there most of the time.

This man is a kill or quit before he can be killed kind of fighter and you should always bet accordingly.

I do believe that it was Conor’s heavy stance that led to his demise against Dustin at UFC 257. Conor came out and said that he was just going to use the Poirier fight as a boxing warm up for a showdown with The Pride of The Philippines, Manny Pacquiao.

McGregor Punched Hard

This, of course, fell through as quickly as any Conor McGregor defeat. He is winning until he isn’t and that’s usually where the story ends.

In McGregor’s first meeting with Poirier down at 145, Conor knew that Dustin’s base was in boxing and that he was also emotional and likely to throw slower wider punches because of it.

It didn’t really matter what Dustin threw at Conor because Poirier had absolutely no idea what was coming next from Mystic Mac. The man opened up with a hook kick, landed a couple of hard spinning back kicks, and lots of stabs to the gut with the front kick.

Conor couldn’t have come out any different than he did in the rematch attacking his opponent at his strength when he didn’t have to. Dustin was obviously effective with the calf kicks but they would have never been there if Conor had employed a similar game plan from the first fight.

He was overconfident in his boxing and he paid for it.

What are the odds that the second fight goes the same way?

Pretty low, in my opinion.

I believe McGregor will come out with more movement but will Dustin Poirier counter that with a well timed takedown attempt?

One of McGregor’s biggest strengths as a fighter is his movement and I think he will be light on his feet again in a rematch.

If he fights like he did in the first fight which I think Conor will, I give him the edge 60/40.

That is around where this one opened up but it has since moved so we have a bit of value on the little leprechaun.

Give the little wanker your gold and he will reward you with a 95% return on your investment.

In Conclusion

Dustin Poirier is the UFC’s newest superstar!

Is He Though Thor

That is left to be seen. He certainly has the respect of the betting community after all of the hopes and dreams he crushed just weeks ago at UFC 257 on Fight Island.

What is next for The Diamond? I think he takes the red panties over the gold belt. Dustin didn’t seem too thrilled with the idea of the title after he beat Conor. I think he feels like Khabib is the champ even if he walks away.

That’s like Jon Jones and the Light Heavyweight Division. Other fighters can call themselves the champ but they never beat him. Daniel Cormier was the heavyweight champ and I don’t care what he said, he still felt like second best, because he was.

Dustin will likely fight Conor Mcgregor again and make upwards of 8 figures doing so. That is the move but if he does, I do have Conor as the favorite. The (-300) lunacy is behind us all but we have to remember that Dustin said himself that Conor had him rocked.

If McGregor would have capitalized and landed one more clean one, the fight was over.

McGregor Punching Poirier

Dustin’s words, not mine. This was all before the calf kicks but credit the early takedown with saving Dustin in this fight.

People want to say it was the kicks but if he had not taken McGregor down early on, Conor likely wouldn’t have shown any pause after rocking Dustin with his patented left hand.

I edge Conor in the rematch slightly and if you’re giving me 2 to 1 on Chandler as a dog, I will take it. Charles Oliveira, though, has looked for ways out of the fight in the past and Dustin might take him into deep waters where he may do the same.
