With Lonzo Ball coming into his own in New Orleans and with the Pelicans needing to bring in more young assets that can grow together, Jrue Holiday’s name has been mentioned as a potential trade chip for the Pels. Which destinations make the most sense? Which ones would move the future odds the most?

Miami Heat
Miami was one of the teams that pursued Holiday last season, and it makes sense that they would be one of the teams to call New Orleans first to explore the possibility of a deal. Holiday’s price won’t be cheap, but pairing him with Jimmy Butler and using him as an upgrade from Goran Dragic, could be the missing piece this team needs.
It would allow them to continue using Kendrick Nunn and/or Tyler Herro to bolster their bench scoring, but acquiring Holiday will not be cheap. They may have to throw in Nunn to get the deal done, but that would be a fair price to pay if some picks were involved.
The Heat already owes some of their future first-round picks in 2021 and 2023, but if they were to dangle one or two to the Pelicans to get Holiday, we could see a deal get done. It would immediately make the Heat one of the favorites in the East.
Denver Nuggets
Another team that has been rumored as a suitor for Holiday in the past is the Denver Nuggets. While Denver has some great guard depth and already has a star-in-the-making at point guard, Holiday would add a lot to this team. He would take the pressure off Jamal Murray, and he could easily play next to him off the ball if needed.
The Nuggets could dangle Gary Harris and Monte Morris in a deal for Holiday, and that could get it done. A third team might be brought in to give them some more flexibility, but with the 22nd pick in the draft added in, the Nuggets are another very plausible destination. A trade for Holiday could also make their current future odds an excellent value from where they are now.
Brooklyn Nets
In the absence of an agreed sign-and-trade of Spencer Dinwiddie, the Nets would have to get another team involved to make this trade work. However, if they are able to pull it off without trading members of their core, a trade bringing in Holiday could make the Nets favorites in the East.
The most logical move would be to sign-and-trade Dinwiddie along with DeAndre Jordan and some picks to get Holiday, but it remains to be seen if that price would be enough for the Pelicans.
The answer is probably not, but that won’t stop Brooklyn from trying. Pairing Holiday with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant would be a powerful lineup, especially if they can keep Caris LeVert in the process. If they offer LeVert in any deal, they could be the favorites to land Holiday.
Los Angeles Lakers
The NBA is a league where the rich get richer, so it shouldn’t surprise anyone if Holiday ends up in LA. He is a Los Angeles native, and as the Lakers showed, they could use some help at guard, especially if they are unable to keep Rajon Rondo.
However, this would be another tricky trade to pull off. The Lakers would have to bring in a third team or gut their entire roster to make a trade for Holiday work, and with only late first-round picks to offer, it might be hard (but not impossible) to get Holiday in the purple and gold.
Los Angeles Clippers
The Clippers face similar issues as the Lakers. They really need a starting-caliber point guard, something they lacked all of last season and it showed in crunch time. A trade bringing in Holiday would solve all of their issues at that position, but once again, it’s easier said than done.
The Clippers don’t have much in regards to tradable assets and would almost certainly need a third team involved to make the financials work. Plus, the best trade chips they could offer right now are Patrick Beverley and Lou Williams, which probably won’t be enough to move the needle. Unless of course, they can do a sign-and-trade with Montrezl Harrell.
The Clippers also don’t have any first-round picks to offer, so acquiring Holiday would be really hard for them without getting another team or two involved or utilizing a sign and trade with Harrell.
