Week 14 NFL Moneyline Best Picks – Football Predictions

Check out our game-by-game predictions for week 14 of the 2020 NFL season. Here’s an all-encompassing breakdown that includes four top bets to spot as well as rapid-fire SU picks for the rest of the week’s schedule.

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Miami Dolphins

Sunday, December 13, 2020 – 1:00 PM ET at Hard Rock Stadium

As the 2020 NFL season begins winding down, the Miami Dolphins are sitting in an advantageous position with a great view of the not too distant playoff fields. Luscious green pastures which they haven’t had occasion to romp in four years, not since their last postseason sojourn in 2016 as an AFC Wildcard.

Sat pretty in second place in the AFC East standings, the Dolphins boast a solid 8-4-0 SU mark, which includes a 7.6 winning margin on average. They’re also 4-2-0 SU at home with a 7.3 winning margin on average – a run of domestic form that includes an eyebrow-raising, four-game winning streak.

Overall, the Dolphins are nipping at the heels of their divisional rivals, Buffalo Bills (9-3-0 SU), and they’re 7-1 SU in their last 8 games. This is a positive run of form that is underpinned recently by a two-game winning streak going into week 14. To put it simply, if the season were to end today, the Dolphins would be heading into the playoffs as one of the fortunate few to clinch a wildcard spot in the AFC.

So, the above NFL betting trends for Miami present well on paper. Good form, winning attitude, confidence boosting momentum— all positively convincing aspects that in many circumstances would underscore a favourable outlook in the betting. However, not in this case. Or, so it seems. Not when the Dolphins are set to face the high-flying 11-1-0 SU Kansas City Chiefs – the indisputable standard in the league right now.

Betting against an 8-4-0 SU team playing on home turf isn’t to be taken lightly. If only by virtue of that very same solid record, Miami could entertain a measure of optimism ahead of this contest, despite the NFL odds being stacked against them. Across sports betting sites, the Dolphins are trading at the considerable disadvantage to the defending Super Bowl champions. They are priced at +270 or higher in money-line betting, depending on the choice of platform.

One of the reasons behind the market’s conspicuous stance against the hosts is the absence of a truly elite scalp to their credit. Granted the Dolphins have notched wins over the Niners, Rams and Cardinals (to name a few) this season, but those teams are nowhere near to reaching the level of play that the Kansas City Chiefs are depositing each and every week this season. After all, the Chiefs have merely one loss to their credit this season, and they’re riding the momentum of a seven-game winning streak into Hard Rock Stadium, which is the longest active winning streak in the AFC, and the second longest winning streak in the NFL after the New Orleans Saints (9 wins).

It goes without saying, games aren’t played on paper but on the field. It would take something extraordinary from the Dolphins to pull off the upset in week 14 – from some grand masterplan by head coach Brian Flores that would outwit Andy Reid to otherworldly quarterbacking from rookie Tua Tagovailoa that would see the untried and untested starter outgun and outshoot Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense. That would be something…

Nah, all told, the Dolphins may well play the Chiefs tough, even give them a run for their money. However, clinching the win is a gauntlet-throwing move, one that’s frankly impossible to imagine with the team still in the early stages of its development under a relatively new staff fielding a young, fresh-faced quarterback.

Arizona Cardinals vs. New York Giants

Sunday, December 13, 2020 - 1:00 PM ET at MetLife Stadium

The New York Giants return to the east coast this week, flush off of a statement win over the Seattle Seahawks at CenturyLink Field that sent seismic shockwaves through NFL betting markets. The Giants edged the Seahawks 17-12 last Sunday, all the while fielding backup quarterback Colt McCoy as the offensive pivot in Daniel Jones’ stead who was side-lined with a hamstring injury that he’d sustained the week prior.

Over and above masterminding the upset over Seattle though, the real revelation is the fact that the Giants have all of a sudden emerged as the top team in the NFC East with a 5-7-0 SU mark. Thus, ruling the roost (for the time being, at least) despite early season lookahead futures odds which served up every single one of their divisional neighbours over them as better and/or best bets to clinch the title. Of course, there’s still some way to go to the finish-line. However, there’s no escaping the fact that the Giants are the revelation of the NFC East, motoring down the stretch in the driver’s seat.

The Giants kicked off their 2020 campaign with a 1-7-0 SU mark, prompting many to question Joe Judge’s merit as the head coach tasked with the daunting mandate to steer a storied organization into the post-Eli Manning era. And yet, since week 8, the Giants have turned things around spectacularly, reeling off four straight wins to ascend the ranks.

Although McCoy hadn’t started a game in forever, Joe Judge and the Giants coaching staff were in a defensive mind last Sunday, leaning heavily on the defense for what was according to multiple sports betting sites’ estimation a tough out at CenturyLink Field. The G-men’s defense thwarted Russell Wilson and Co. like no other defense has this season and held the Seahawks to merely 12 points scored. That marked Seattle’s lowest deposit this season.

Inasmuch as the Giants appear to be on the ascendancy, the Cardinals are on a conspicuous descent in recent weeks. The Cardinals have lost four of their last five games, including three-straight since the infamous “Hail Murray” that saw the Cardinals snatch a victory from Buffalo Bills’ expectant arms.

Why the Cardinals are struggling is a source of much debate. Murray’s shoulder injury, which he sustained against the Seahawks, might be a contributing factor. Ever since his injury, he’s been hesitant to run as often as he’s been accustomed to, an aspect that renders Arizona’s offense less potent. Perhaps, the pressure of the occasion got to them. After starting 5-2 SU in the first seven weeks of the season, expectations were raised in proportion, Something the combined lack of experience of Kliff Kingsbury and Kyler Murray may have been unprepared to take on as the Cardinals have gone 1-4-0 SU since.

All told, this game is a right tossup for NFL picks. Current form dictates the Giants are the better bet to win straight up, but the NFL odds are skewed in favor of the visiting Cardinals ever so slightly. Push comes to shove, the Giants are the choice bet, but don’t go betting the farm on it.

Tennessee Titans vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

Sunday, December 13, 2020 - 1:00 PM ET at TIAA Bank Field

The Tennessee Titans will be looking to spring back into the win column at the expense of the hapless Jacksonville Jaguars, who are riding an 11-game losing streak into week 14 – the second worst run of form after the woeful NY Jets. If awards were being handed out for excellence in losing, the Jaguars and Jets would be neck-and-neck in the running. Well, if the 2021 NFL draft were considered a quasi-award, then the pair are in the running for the top two draft picks….But let’s not digress here…

To put it simply, this is a “get right game” for the Titans, who were stunned in a 41-35 loss to the Cleveland Browns at Nissan Stadium last Sunday. The score in the end belied the lopsided contest, as the Browns jumped out to a healthy lead in the game, leaving Ryan Tannehill and Co. playing catch-up right out of the gates. To their credit, the Titans did manage to close the gap on the Browns, but the lead proved too great to overcome in its entirety.

The Titans took the first meeting 33-30 over their AFC South rivals, coming from behind to defeat the Gardiner Minshew-inspired Jaguars in week 2. A lot has happened since then, including the quarterback carousel trundling along in Jacksonville. Most recently, veteran Mike Glennon has been getting the starts for the Jaguars, including last week’s clash with the Minnesota Vikings that went into overtime before the Jaguars took the 27-23 loss.

It remains to be seen which quarterback the Jaguars trot out at the helm of the offense for this divisional clash, as it’s likely to have an impact. However, at the face of it, the Titans would appear to be the best bet to win straight up regardless of who leads Jacksonville into this contest. For the simple reason that the Titans have something to play for while the Jaguars are done for 2020.

New Orleans Saints vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Sunday, December 13, 2020 - 4:25 PM ET at Lincoln Financial Field

The New Orleans Saints became one of the first teams to clinch a playoff spot at the weekend, following a solid 21-16 win over divisional foes Atlanta Falcons. The victory sees the Saints improve to a 10-2-0 SU mark and puts them into pole position in the race for the No.1 seed in the NFC.

Taysom Hill has proven to be an able back-up for Drew Brees, who currently is side-lined with a rib injury. Sean Payton’s trust in Hill has been rewarded handsomely, as the Saints currently boast the longest active winning streak in the league at nine straight wins.

Next up for the Saints is a date against the Philadelphia Eagles, a side that is mired in an existential crisis that could usher in wholesale changes by season’s end. Carson Wentz was for the first time this season benched for rookie Jalen Hurts, who was drafted earlier this year to the shock of fans and neutrals alike.

Doug Pederson hasn’t revealed which quarterback will get the nod in week 14, but if he values his position in the “City of Brotherly Love”, a shakeup is almost absolutely necessary. Things clearly haven’t worked thus far,, and to press forward with a formula that is proving to be an EPIC FAIL would be tantamount to career suicide.

All told, this is a mismatch in every sense. The Saints are being tipped quite rightly as the runaway faves on the NFL odds board to clinch the win on the road. Short of some kind of unforeseen disaster, the Saints should come through for their backers comfortably. In other words, color the world shocked if the Eagles pull off the upset.
