Monday Night Football Game Preview: Bills vs. Patriots

Happy Holidays folks and welcome to the last Monday Night Football of 2020! Soak it up and play smart. Below we’ll take a look at Week 16’s Monday Night matchup between the Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots––along with the best sportsbooks to go with when betting on this primetime game.

Buffalo Bills vs. New England Patriots

Monday, December 28, 2020 – 8:15 PM ET at Gillette Stadium

The 11-3 Buffalo Bills enter Monday Night coming off a blow out 48-19 victory over the New England Patriots. At 6-8, the Patriots are not in good shape after a 22-12 loss to rookie QB Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins.

The Matchup

Led by third-year QB Josh Allen, the Bills are on a four-game victory streak and a six-game cover streak. Last weak, Buffalo clinched the AFC East title win.

Allen is making his MVP case after completing 68.7 percent of his passes for 4,000 yards and 30 touchdowns and added another eight rushing touchdowns. He’ll want to continue it after his subpar performance against the Patriots back in November when he went just 11-for-18 for 154 yards with one rushing touchdown and an interception. The Bills still managed to win at home 24-21.

Things haven’t looked so good for Bill Belichick and his Tom Brady-less Patriots who are out of the playoff race for the first time in a while. It’s obvious Cam Newton is not their next guy at QB, so maybe it’s time to bench him and see what Jarrett Stidham can do since he has a contract through next season. They won’t have much help on the ground game, but that could be their way of winning since Buffalo’s rush defense has been inconsistent.

While the Pats have struggled to find wins this season, it’s not going to be a cake walk for Buffalo. New England's defense is stingy and allows just 21.5 points per game. They know how to pressure opposing QBs and hold them to an average passer rating of 86.1, which is the sixth-best in the league, and limit QBs to 212.4 passing yards a game.

Prediction

The Patriots have been eliminated from the playoffs so what are they really playing for now? Their defense might be stingy against QBs but they’re going to have a tough time holding Stefon Diggs and Cole Beasley especially without Stephon Gilmore to hold the fort down. Go with the Bills for your NFL picks.
