Here’s some interesting Eagles news on a Sunday morning, reported by ESPN’s Tim McManus:
Rookie Jalen Hurts has been getting first-team reps at quarterback ahead of the Philadelphia Eagles‘ Monday Night Football game against the Seattle Seahawks, sources told ESPN.
Carson Wentz is still expected to start, but there’s been a noticeable increase in Hurts’ snaps with the first team at QB, signaling the likelihood of a more expansive role as Wentz’s struggles continue.
Hmm, well at this point I think we’d agree that less of Carson Wentz is a good thing. A benching, even temporary, could help him clear his head and hit the figurative reset button and come back perhaps looking more like the player we’ve seen in the past.
But if he’s still expected to start, that’s a bit strange, isn’t it? It’s one thing to give Hurts more time on the field, but it can’t be the same half-assed zone read plays and nothing else. You don’t want to be in quarterback purgatory. Wouldn’t it make more sense to give him the keys to the car and let Carson sit out a week?
Not sure. It seems like they’re moving in the right direction, but still hesitant to do what a lot of the fan base thinks should be done. If you’re gonna limit Carson, bench him outright. If you’re gonna play Hurts more, take off the training wheels entirely and let him dive right in. Let him throw the ball and give him the full playbook to work with. Anything in between feels like you’re doing yourself a disservice.
My take on a non-Eagles Sunday. Enjoy not having to watch the Birds today.
