The US Political Universe remains focused squarely on the state of Georgia, where the fate of the Senate hangs in the balance. The stakes couldn’t be higher as control of the all-important Senate branch of the US government will be on the line January 5.
For the Democrats it is all about gaining control of all three branches of the US government and essentially giving themselves a rubber-stamp for any policy that they see fit. For the Republicans, it is all about putting one final check on the Democratic administration and gaining a little power in Washington.
Last Saturday, we saw a wild, Election Rally by President Trump in Georgia that may or may not act to sway the electorate. On Sunday, we witnessed the Senate Debates in Georgia. Things really heated up in the Peach State last weekend and made an impact on the Politics Odds and Polls.
David Perdue didn’t even bother to show up to debate Jon Ossoff. The Kelly Loeffler/Raphael Warnock debate was as much about mud-slinging as it was about substantive issues and wooing voters to their side. While debates don’t traditionally lead to huge swings in Election odds, “the Georgia situation” has been fluid as ever with the Candidates’ performance on stage last week likely having something to do with it.
So, after yet another crazy week in the world of US Politics Betting, let’s take a quick peek at the two races that will help determine the direction of the US for the next four years, the line movements, and what sporstbooks glean from the dynamic, unpredictable and contentious Georgia Senate races.
U.S. SENATE ELECTION WINNER – GEORGIA (SPECIAL ELECTION)
Kelly Loeffler (R) -145 with Bovada (visit our Bovada Review)
Raphael Warnock (D) +110 with Bovada
The Senate Debate between Loeffler and Warnock on Sunday revealed the strategy of each Candidate down the stretch of the race. For Loeffler, it is all about painting Warnock as a “Radical Liberal”. If you don’t believe it, watch the Debate again – Loeffler only mentioned those words in succession 11 times. For Warnock, his angle is tying his opponents as closely as he can to Donald Trump and all of his shenanigans of the last four years.
The only post-Debate poll that has come out in the Loffler/Warnock race comes from Trafalgar Group, and it has Democrat Warnock with a 50%-47% lead over the Republican Loeffler. That same group released a poll last Friday, before the Debate and it had Loffler with a 50%-45% lead. That is a +5-point swing for Warnock in 7 days and a -3-point swing for Loeffler.
After all is said and done, Warnock ends this week having closed the gap on Loeffler both in the Polls and the Odds. Last week at this time Loeffler was -170 and is now -145. Warnock was +130 and now he is +110.
U.S. SENATE RUNOFF ELECTION WINNER – GEORGIA (GENERAL ELECTION)
David Perdue (R) -230 with Bovada
Jon Ossoff (D) +170 with Bovada
Only Jon Ossoff showed up for his debate on Sunday – Perdue’s podium was empty. It would have been a good chance for oddsmakers and the public for that matter to better get a grip on what is happening in this race.
Just like in the other race, Trafalgar Group has run the only “post-Debate” poll between Perdue and Ossoff. As of December 7, after the debate-debacle, Purdue had a 50%-48% lead over his Republican challenger. Somehow Purdue’s standing increased this week from last Friday’s poll when he actually trailed Ossoff 48%-47%.
The odds have also gotten better for Purdue the last seven days. Last week at his time he was -215 and today he is -230 on the betting sites. Ossoff has lost some ground despite being the only one present during his debate. He was +160 last week and is +170 this week. I guess keeping your mouth shut is paying off this time.
2020 has been a bonkers year in the world of US politics betting. It looks like it will spill over until 2021. The January 5 Georgia Senate Elections promise to keep oddsmakers and betters on their toes and will be a race that everyone across America and around the world will be keeping an eye on
