Eden Hazard: Why ex-Chelsea star and Belgium captain is NOT facing England in the Nations League

Belgium and Real Madrid star Eden Hazard will miss this weekend’s UEFA Nations League clash with England having tested positive for coronavirus.

Hazard’s career has been blighted by fitness and form issues since his mega-money move from Chelsea to Real.

And now he has been hit by another problem having contracting COVID-19.

He and club team-mate Casemiro returned positive tests on November 7 and are currently undergoing periods of self-isolation.

It means Hazard will not be able to face England on Sunday in their Group A2 tie against Belgium in Leuven.

Injury, weight and now coronavirus has hampered Eden Hazard as Real Madrid ace tests positive

Hazard got his first Real goal for over a year on October 31 when he netted a fine effort in Los Blancos’ 4-1 La Liga win over Huesca.

But he has only managed three club appearances this season and scored just once in the 2019/20 campaign.

Despite his struggles, Luka Modric recently stated that Hazard is still one of the world’s best footballers and he will prove it once he’s fully fit.

The Ballon d’Or winner said: “It’s not a comfortable situation for Hazard. He’s amazing, he’s going to prove it.

“Only injuries can prevent him going forward. When he’s been fit, he’s shown he’s important, it’s a shame. We need him.

“Hazard is one of the best in the world, he is incredible, and I am sure he will show it this year if injuries do not prevent it.

“Last season he already showed that he was important until injuries stopped him. It goes to show why Madrid paid so much for him.”

Belgium v England in the UEFA Nations League will be live on talkSPORT with our coverage starting at 7pm on Sunday.
