The Los Angeles Lakers have locked in Anthony Davis on a five-year contract, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports. While Davis’ return was widely expected, there was no guarantee that he’d commit for a full, five-year deal.
Davis famously turned down the opportunity to sign a supermax contract with the New Orleans Pelicans when he demanded a trade from the franchise but can still sign a five-year deal, starting at 30% of the league’s salary cap as any veteran with seven-to-ten years of experience could.
Ultimately, Davis will earn just shy of $190 million with the Lakers, down from the shade over $220 million he could have locked in had he stayed with the Pels.
The deal will keep Davis in Lakers colors through the 2024-25 season. Davis will be 31 years old at the time.
The final year of Davis’ deal with Los Angeles will include an early termination option, which means that he’ll be able to opt out ahead of the 2024 offseason if he so chooses.
